Inventor of LSD dies at age 102
« on: April 30, 2008, 07:17:54 AM »
For those of us who came of age in the late 60s and early 70s, this might be of interest. Anybody remember orange sunshine?  purple microdot?    So long ago and far away  :)

Albert Hofmann, the father of the mind-altering drug LSD whose medical discovery grew into a notorious illicit substance, died Tuesday. He was 102.

If you ever met the man, or his invention  ;) you might want to collect some of this "art".  These are signed by Peter Fonda and Timothy Leary, but there's LOTS of very cool, unsigned ones also...

LSD showed promise in psychotherapy
but lost credibility in the medical community after
Leary got hold of it.

This explains that strange sense of loss and grief I haven't been able to put my finger on.   :'(
Once I ate a piece that would have encircled the bunny in the lower left corner of the looking glass sheet. the self-described "father" of LSD readily agreed that the drug was dangerous if in the wrong hands.

I guess the same could be said for car keys

Actually Bill W the founder of AA found it very good to treat Alcoholism. Unfortunately, our Society demonizes something and you just can't use it. In the UK they use Heroin on Cancer Patients and it relieves their pain very well and they are more alert than on the painkillers we use in the US.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Of course, drugs produced by drug companies aren't demonized but then drug companies make lots of bucks and know how to lobby.  ;)

in some of the footage he looked crazed and strung out in his lab and it seemed as if he'd been up for days "testing".  great footage!   ;D

I once had the opportunity to watch oil spots on a concrete floor bloom into beautiful flowers. I sat there enjoying that for hours. Oh, what a colorful palate my twenties were.  :-X

Oh ya, go with the flow :D     The flora stories are interesting - there were leaves growing from the bare tree, then they turned autumn colours, fell off and drifted down into the snow, all in -30 weather.  I think there is momentus cosmic significance in the shared experience but I can't think of what it is. ;D

During a mega-dose(5 hits of double dipped) I watched mountains perkolate, the Turnigan Arm(a fjord) slither like a 14 mile long silt grey snake upwards into clouds, and met a very short woman, at the time I was convinced she was an elf, turns out she was my friends mom whom I had never met and had the heater core in the station wagon blow-up and spray antifreeze all over my leg and fog the crap out of the windows. The only flash back I have ever had was 7 years after that trip, I was pulling into a parking spot and felt what I thought was hot antifreeze on my leg, and tasted the sweet taste of it in my mouth, looking dow in a panic, I saw nothing and realized what has happened. ;D

What a loss.  I guess the story of the invention was that he tried some of what he'd come up with (derived from ergot, right?) and said "Well, crap, it's not working."  and took a bike ride home.  and WHAT a ride.

I'm not sure I'm tightly wrapped enough, I get high and after the 3rd hour of stonage I start gettin' a little freaked and wanting to come down... so hours and hours of lsd would probably scare me.  shrooms were enough.  I'm *in* my weird 20s... but I think I've experimented enough for quite awhile.  Still... everyone remembers their first experiences.  I remember watching the lightbulbs get sucked in and out of their sockets and the wooden paneling on the walls running like wet watercolor...

as for medicine, yeah... heroin and marijuana have fantastic medicinal qualities but H is *so* addictive, and marijuana has been abused so badly, they both have lost credibility as decent pharmaceuticals.  A shame.  It's like $1 gasoline.  If we had access to it, would we merrily ride motorcycles, drive priuses/hybrids/geo metros, or would there be MORE hummers/ SUVs and massive trucks on the road?  people aren't known for their restraint. ::)

I live in Oregon.  Sure they're lifting ordinances etc, but still, if you say you have a medical mj card, people will mock you.

It's not getting the research it deserves. Canabinoids do wonders for parkinsons, diabetics (lowering blood sugar) and cancer patients...

It'll just be a while before it really gains the respect it deserves.
On a side note, hemp seed is actually really high protein and the oil's good for cooking, the fiber is strong and makes nice clothes etc... I think the whole thing would be really useful... but I'm just a hippy with an old motorcycle, so don't listen to me. ;)

I don't know if that's because of the amount of "abuse" as some people may call it or due to the amount of government propaganda that's been shoved down our throats for generations. We have a wide population of people who take the government at their word and what they say as gospel with out the ability to think for themselves. It just seems strange to me that more people abuse alcohol and tobacco with far more health risks involved with less risk of prosecution provided you drink responsibly.

that's because way back when it was a highly misunderstood (and hated by the moralists) drug, they (the effing gov't) made it a schedule one drug... meaning, no research, no nothin'... it is illegal as an illegal drug can be...  at least in the US.
