And I finally get to another update. Lots to cover so the chronology will be out of whack. So here goes.  After much discussion with Ken at CycleX and Mike Reindl, we came to no real conclusion as to what went wrong. WE know the #3 piston had a mild seizure which necessitates a rebore. So we jumped it from 888cc to 902cc (67mm to 67.5mm. Ken did that work and we're using WiseCo 10.25 to 1 pistons with the coated skirts. Mike went thru the head again, lapped, ground, pressure tested, shimmed for the new higher bump cam, touched up the paint. So we're ready to go, just to find out Wiseco gave us the wrong rings. So that swap out is in the mail right now.

The old ARIAS pistons must have been 12:1, see the difference in dome height?

The WISECO have deeper valve pockets too. To accommodate the "bad boy" bump stick:

A tease from the VJMC National Meet held in June. I'll build a seperate thread with pictures from that, in the event forum.

There were two things that were never finished on the bike. THe front brakelight didn't work. And we never installed the chrome master cylinder. The brakelight was easy, just needed a new switch. I had bought a chrome one Classic Cycle I think, years ago. So we finally got it installed.

I had a psychological block about the master cylinder. I knew the site glass would be sacrificed to the chrome fairies. So I'd found a DIY somewhere on the internet. It used mineral glass watch crystals. It had me glue the mineral glass into the hole with RTV. WE got that done OK. Then installed the new plunger parts. Next will be assembly and bleeding. Hopefuully, all the air will be near the top and it shouldn't be a big problem.

Soda blasted with a chrome top. Didn't look bad, but not in keeping with the chrome theme.  :D

Used an eyedropper to remove the fluid in the MC.

Hoping to get the right rings this week and button this SOB up.   :D

Ron, they should still be sending you Christmas cards as much work as you had them do...  ;)

Good on the progress!
Does it excite you to think about the potential on it with the new pistons?

Brown's. They closed shop over a year ago. Don't know exactly why. I had a long talk  with Ronnie Brown, the owner. Seems we had a lot in common: triple by-pass, stents etc. That may have encouraged him to shut down, or maybe they ran afoul of the EPA.

Yeah the new pistons etc, will be nice.

Nice shop day today. Nice temp, no frustration with parts. Got the rings gapped. The target on the compression ring was 12 thou, an they all measured a tight 12 thou, so we filed them to 12.5 and deburred the ends.  The scraper was 14.5 thou target. They all measured a little tighter than that, so we took the trusty points file to them and they are all at target now.  All installed on pistons now.

Tapped out the chrome from the hole where the lever pivot bolt threads into on the chrome master cylinder. No pic. Finally a productive day.   :D

Hey Ron....any updates?  Hope things are well with shop days  :D  Rose and I took the Guzzi on a long roundtrip to Colorado and back to visit my uncle who just had a lung transplant.  Was a good excuse to get some miles on 2 wheels.

Update coming up.

I trailer-ed my HawkGT to Avon CO, for a ride with a club. Years later, I rode my FJR to Denver for business then stayed a few extra days in the Rockies around Estes Park. Those days...

Hope the uncle  does well.

I'll skip a few tales and fill in ater. For now... WTFIT?

Its not ferrous. too black to be aluminum, acts like rubber when I pierce it with screwdriver, not primary tensioner, I can see that completely, not camchain tensioner, its white (M3 dealie) front slide is completely intact.

Any thoughts?

The chrome MC turned out nice. I glued in  mineral spirits watch crystal for the site glass. You could actually see the air bubbles rising when the handlebars were turned to put it at the highest point. It self bleeded to a near rock hard pull.

Put chrome pecker head bolts in the mirror holes. Won't be using them.   :(

Do you think the clutch may have been slipping in your last dyno?  Hard to believe the friction material sheared off like that in the amount of time that you ran it  :(

I have never needed to replace a clutch on anything, but, was under the impression that they generally shed excess material...seems like therewould be some sort of break in procedure?

I've replaced a few over the years. Very little experience of losing material, they just start slipping. No break in procedure.  I've removed the cover and the cavity was clean as a pin. So, we proceed with another unknown.

My suspicion is, I used black #2 Permatex non-hardening goop on the cases. That's the only thing that approached the color and texture.

Got the cylinder block back on. Lack of dexterity made it a gigantic chore. Head comes next.

Medical update: I've been losing dexterity and strength on a slow but steady decline. Still boxing and stationay bike and elliptical. But...

I walked out on the back porch to look at a massive spider and web that my wife was showing me. It was quite impressive. Just a few steps.

Came back in for breakfast, 10 minutes or so, and walked into the bedroom. Lifted my foot to sock up, and it was covered in blood!. Dried, and no more fresh. Looked back into the kitchen and there was a pool of blood on the floor where I'd been sitting.

After cleaning up, I could see a 1" slit the length of the outer big toe. I never felt a thing. Neuropathy.  >:(  Hydrogen peroxide cleaned and sealed it up

Oh well, we'll carry on.   :D
