what kind of spider is that?
At least not a black widow or brown recluse...it is way too social to be the later, seeing how it wants you to walk into its web...wait...maybe it does...

Popped over to give Ron and Bruce a hand....Cylinders got installed.  The Oil Rings were a bugger to get into the sleeves on #1&4.  Then some hunting down of Cam Tower Studs that were playing hide and seek in the garage.

Cylinder Head next Sunday Right Ron?  See you then

BTW...I tossed that picture of the cam tower stud measurement for reference.  Smaller threaded end in Block and upper protrusion from the surface is about 45mm.

Good news since the threads in head for cam tower stud look like soon giving up. A small radius of alu close to stud.

My K0-K1 Fische calls for a 6x58 flange bolt with a 10mm head. They definitely have Philips heads on the printed page as well in the posted picture, though I don't think it matters. The fish lists them as NLA. Truly, as the K2 and later fisches I can find don't show the Philips head. So I must have some early bolts.

The Philip/10mm combo is used in the indexing bolts, but they are way shorter than the cam bearing bolts. My cam bearing bolts with the Philips head/hex head combo, turn in 8 full turns which is my rule of thumb for a bolt/screw being long enough or too long.

I wish I'd written down all of the incompatible details this build has uncovered between experience, shop manuals and parts fishies.  :(

No takers on Joe's trivia question? We put the cam and rockers in without putting in the 4 little orings under the cam bearings. That has been rectified and we hope to make headway tomorrow!  :D

That gave me the opportunity to fine tune my skills of passing the cam thru the mickey mouse ears of the cam sprocket and jumping the chain up on the sprocket.

Have you got a pic Don? I've got an ancient Sandcast head for my '69 engine build, but I hadn't noticed how many O ring depressions there are? ;D

Yes, that's an odd duck. Never heard of it. But wouldn't be the first time.

Good Day: Cam, rockers in, dyno cover, trans cover, off. Big blue Moroso cam timing wheel on.

Discovered source of rubbish found in oil pan. Whatever I used for gasket glue last time I had the dyno cover off, it wasn't the right stuff. It squeezed out on the inside of the alt space, and bits and pieces of it broke off and found there way to the pan. No evidence of it anywhere else.

Glad to hear of the progress Ron, keep at it...
David
P.S. recommend you take special notebook or make notes to jog your memory on the next assembly/build so you can capture those inconsistencies and put them in a FAQ on the site. Or sticky thread about engine builds that does not fall into oblivion in an archive somewhere inaccessible.

Hey Ron...I know we were searching through the binders for it, but I think the attached PDF for Degreeing the Cam from Megacycle is we were looking for.

Oh Magoo, you've done it again! That is the instruction sheet I had in my memory, and will be very helpful. When Bruce and I did the 41, it took some iterations to get the technique down, then it went pretty smoothly.

Made some headway, set the valve clearances. Read and re-read the instructions for degreeing the cam. I've only done it once and that was a few years ago.
