You right about the cold...my 95 year old house is struggling to keep up with its lack of good insulation....brrrrr

Yep, it was mighty cold.

I read where Indy set a record, 10 days in a row below 20 degrees. Maybe it was 20 days. And tied for a low -12 or some such.

Yeah, its a desk job. So, best to keep at it for (mental and phys.) health and well being. Drs' say so, and that's what I would've done had I stayed healthy.

I guess everyone should know by now...when you click on my project you're going to get discussions of very weird sorts, we've done about everything one can do, or tried to, (failure of LED TS for instance), or... some comments about my health condition which deteriorated before I could get the project done and ride it for myself.

At the urging of my caregiver (wife) I got was a EZ Lite electric wheelchair. This thing is really neat. I don't need it for getting around the compound here. Or, my physical therapy. But, like we recently went on a vacation to a State Park. The room was at one end of the Inn, the restaurant was a good distance at the other end of the Inn. It would also go outside on some of the paved trails. Its about 50 lbs, so between the 2 of us, it went easily in the trunk, and folds into slightly larger than a carry-on luggage. Amazing technology.

Nice jigger Ron, when my dad had to stop driving I started to look at mobility scooters for him, and then I saw a fully enclosed one and I thought, "Geez I'd like one of them!" and I still would, it'd be a cool tool for a local shopping trip.

Yeah mate, in my home town there are lots of older folks riding around on mobility scooters, but of course on wet days they all have to stay indoors, but if you had a fully enclosed one with maybe a foldup one like yours on a rack on the back, you could drive the big one to the mall, then cruise the stores in comfort on the fold up job!

Luckily I'm still driving. I don't draw any horns or squealing tires from offended traffic and all the mailboxes around are still erect. So I'll keep at it, knowing I may have to give it up, like motorcycles.

No worries Ron, but if you do have to give up driving, one of those enclosed scooters would be good fun I reckon? Sadly my dad went downhill fast (dementia) so we never got to try out a scooter for him.

We use to judge Dad's mental health and driving ability by the condition of his car - he seemed to come home with a minor scratch or scrape and not remember how it happened!

Then one day, he must have been 90 or 91, he told us he shouldn't he driving any longer. He wouldnt say why, but we think he had a close call that scared him. Sadly he passed a couple years later at 92. He was a good man, bought me my first motorcycle - Suzuki X6 Hustler!

No update this week, called for weather.

I must have lost about 20 pics. I had some shots of the crate we'll use for the 305 engine, and some disassembly shots and tool shots. Can't find them anywhere. I know I had the disk in the thingie and looked at them, but must have forgot to download them. Oh well.

Didn't BMW or DKW make a car like that in the 50's? All I remember about them is they only had 1 door and it was the windshield and front of the cab. I was just a kid when I saw one around 1957 or so.

It should get nice sound with a CB750 engine! Just for sure when running out of battery power. Increase charging system for quicker battery charge!

It's been about 0 deg outside. Heaters will get it up to 30-35. Still too cold for my bones.

Beautiful day today in Central Indiana. Got the leak down test done without a hitch, and...

All 4 were 90/88, which is 2% leak down which is very good.

We did another conventional compression check and it was virtually the same as the first: #1=90psi; #2=145psi; #3=200psi; #4=215PSI.

While warming it up I had the brilliant idea to put my hand over the mufflers. It was obvious that the #1&2 muffler was going irregular pit a miss a pat pat mis. While the #3&4 muffler was a nice even pit a pat a pit a pat, etc.

Well if it's not blowing smoke it can't be broken rings, I presume the piston to cylinder clearances would have been checked when you built the engine Ron, so are some valves not seating? any chance the valves have kissed their pistons and have slightly bent stems?

Or could the valve guides be too tight? That was common on Ducati's back in the 1970's, my 900SS had steel guides from the factory and they used to "nip up" when hot, the fix was to install bronze guides and give them plenty of clearance. Keep us posted, this is interesting!

Given Mike R (JMR) has gone through the head it would not be guides being too tight. Hopefully it is something non-catastrophic or lethal to engine parts.
