Saw "The Great Escape" when I was about 12.  Never even thought about it before that but at that moment I knew I had to have a motorcycle.  Funny how one little thing can change your whole life.

I've been wanting to see "Riding Solo to the Top of the World" for a while now.  The title says it all.  Anybody seen it??  I can't find it anywhere to rent so I might just buy it.  It is kind of like Survivorman, the way he has to ride to the top of a mountain, place his camera pointing back at the road he just drove, then ride back down the road and then back towards the camera, just to get one shot of himself.

And @ Ecosse: if you want that Metisse, you can get a brand new one for only 18 Large!

The Dirt Bike Kid.

After seeing Ralphie get his gun on A Christmas Story, I got to see him get a magical dirt bike and use it to save a hot dog joint from greedy businessmen. I wanted a dirt bike so badly after seeing this as a kid...

How many have seen the 1979 film Quadrophenia?  Based on the conflict between the Vespa riding Mods and the motorcycle riding Rockers in mid 60's England.  Great R&B soundtrack.

Yeah, Sting is in it though he does not have a major role.  I think I will have to watch it again it's been 30 years since I have seen it.

I'll third those who suggested "On Any Sunday." My dad saw it in the theaters when he was a kid, and it is the reason he's ridden dirtbikes his entire life. There's something that movie makes me feel that just can't be put into words, it sums up all the reasons I ride, dirt and street.

My parents used to be on a pit crew for an off road team that raced the Baja 1000 in the 1980s. Malcolm Smith (who stars in the movie) drove buggies for the team, and they ended up becoming good friends. I've had the good fortune of meeting the man, and he is every bit as like-able and genuine as he appears in On Any Sunday.

And I just realized my CB500 was brand new the year the movie came out. Awesome.

Two of my favorite scenes:

The ending (That song seriously plays in my head EVERY time I get on a bike):

Sting's part is pivotal, he's the leader of the Mods, the kid really looks up to him but is later disillusioned....great flick.

Just saw World's Fastest Indian...that's a pretty awesome story.

There's one called "Inferno" with Jean-Claude Van Damme, where his Indian gets stolen by some local outlaw bikers, and well, you know what J-C does...
"Streets of Fire" (a rock and roll fantasy) with Michael Pare and Willem Dafoe is a great action flick with lots of bikes, guns, rock and roll....and an awesomne fight scene with sledge hammers

Anyone else seen Spetters by Paul Verhoeven?  One of the main characters rides a really cool Rickman cb750, other cool street bikes as well.  Warning tho male nudity than I would like in a motorcycle flick, but well done motorcross action!

My friends have quit asking me what I want to do because they know that is the answer they are going to get from me!

I watched a documentary several years ago that was filmed in the 70's. Three young guys go & buy brand new 2-stroke dual sports & ride from Colorado to Panama. It showed a very interesting view of a carefree time. Loved the vintage safety gear & could not imagine riding that far on those bikes. Anybody have any idea what the movie might have been?

Dust to Glory is great, On any Sunday is he prototypical motorcycle "docu-movie". Faster is also just a great movie in the same vein.

I remember watching Then Came Bronson as a kid and wanting be him  I think I was born with a motorcycle addiction.

That would be the Cycles South, Sniper X mentioned. I just saw it today, on the "This TV" channel. (a free over-the-air broadcast channel that shows mostly movies)
They start out on 4-stroke thumpers, and do a lot of cross country riding in CO; I think Bobby Garcia dropped his bike 10 times in the first 20 minutes. ;D They traded the thumps in on Kawi 175s in Albuquerque, after one of them developed bottom end trouble, and they couldn't find parts. Released in 72, it reminded me more of Bruce Brown's earlier surfing movie, Endless Summer, than On Any Sunday.

That one is more famous for the explicit knob job than for any motorcycle content. A truly bad movie.

Watched "STONE" last week, Aussie one, weak story line but worth the watch to see 30 mint Kawasaki 900's.
Anyone got a copy of "On any Sunday"?
It's the only bike movie I remember going to see in the 70's, mind you our girlfriends wore hot pants and halter tops so movie wasn't what we went for. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I showed real road racing motorcycle and it showed a motorcycle on a dyno too.
It was very real about how racers really were in those times. Privateers roaming around
Not corporate teams with matching outfits.

Since you brought up bad movies with some real road-racing scenes Lucky, have you seen Silver Dream Racer, starring David Essex? He was a one-hit-wonder in the '70s, with Rock On.
