Smashing bikes for charity?????
« on: September 09, 2005, 10:24:13 AM »
:o :o :o :oThats right smashing bikes for charity. It appears that some genius in a local fire department near me thought it would make a good fund raiser to offer to drop bikes from a crane! >:( >:( :o :o Now I don't know what moron came up with this idea, maybe they should drop him. I know I will be out there road side buying bikes and doing my part to stop the madness. With any luck I will save some 750 fours from this fate.

Just had to vent. I hate idiots. Anyone who would do such a thing to a bike doesn't deserve one.

thats pretty bad.  I can't imagine how that benefits any charity.  the profits are getting smashed.  Why not sell bikes for charity.

Yea that would atleast make some sense. Especially if there were some sandcast 750 stuff in the bunch. I know I won't go to watch because it will just kill me as I add up in my head what all of the parts are worth.

Does the organizer of this madness have an eBay handle? We might be seeing a lot of parts show up in the coming weeks... ::)

It used to be a favourite past-time in the 1970's at outlaw bike club events in the US, I used to read "Easyrider" magazine at the time, but I didn't see them smashing any 750/4's, not that it matters, any motorcycle deserves better treatment than that.

Over here we have the "Postie Bike Challenge" where groups of riders buy ex-Australia Post Honda CT110 scooters and ride across the Australian Outback and raise money for charity. If any bikes are destroyed, it's only as a consequence of a big "get off" and not an act of vandalism. Here's a link to one "postie bike" challenge. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

There's an event here every year called "Guns and Hoses" where the local firemen and police compete in boxing matches against one another and donate all proceeds to charity. A shame this guy aint from around here. Absolutely no classs. Let's hope his idea brings lots of negative publicity. >:(

I think I may have over reacted earlier. I guess it could be said that this kind of thing is no different than a demolition derby. I don't mean to imply that I'm against charity events by any means, but watching that spectical would be painful to me. And like you guys mentioned, it'd be such a waste.
What a shame, eh?. Sorry for the rant, just hit a nerve when I first read .....jmho  jim

Well I suppose if you were to get an email address for the fire department and post it here, we could at least offer our distain for their program and offer them some other ideas?
