leather jacket
« on: October 20, 2008, 12:20:19 AM »
i am looking to get a leather jacket that has a removable liner for winter. i want a dark or medium brown one. one of those slim fitting types i believe they are called touring jackets, the ones with the short stand up collars with the snap and strap. anyone know a good type or where i can get one?

Try the online stores - Motorcycle Superstore or specific manufacturers such as Schott, Vanson, Hein Gericke, etc....remember you get what you pay for (look at leather thickness as an indicator).

good luck

Andy,

Look for zippered cuffs that are tight when zipped, a flap behind the front zipper to block air through there, and a waist belt that is adjustable.  Lots of pockets are good and a snap collar as you described.  Riding jackets aren't necessarliy the same jacket you would wear out to the movies.  Mine is far to heavy for that.  I think I paid 125 at a bike swap meet.  Also, just as important is a set of matching leather gauntlet gloves. There you go, 35 years of riding experience and untold numbers of jacket combinations.  I took my gloves and jacket to the ground with a broken arm and a wrecked CB750F and still wear them with the scuffs touched up with some shoe polish.

Usually recommend 1.2 mm or greater.....of course if it had CE armour in the elbows and shoulders that would also help in the event of a crash  ;)

Hey Andy8190 -

I have an old brown Hondaline jacket that is the
style you want. It is a size 42, PM me if you are interested.
It is a great jacket, just too big for me.

You just need to grow hair like that avatar all over your body and it would fit.  Of course, you wouldn't need a jacket with hair like that all over.

Go into the local motorcycle store and try on a few to get the sizes. I wear a medium T-Shirt also and ended up getting a 42. Its slightly big on me but I am not exactly a big person either. Allstate makes good stuff.

They will let you send back your jacket back if does not fit and send you the next size I believe for free.

+1 on the idea of trying on some jackets, number sizes apparently
don't mean anything.

Also, that jacket I have would be too big on you.

I ordered a cheap jacket from them a while back, it turned out to be garbage. The main front zipper ended up separating at the seams when I reached my arm down to pick something up.

Are ALL their jackets like that, I don't know maybe not. Just my 2 cents.

I am wearing a 23 year old Hein Gericke I was given for Christmas in '86 - (Thanks Mom!).  It seems to have shrunk some though.  The front zipper tore up last winter but I still wear it using the buttons.  I recommend buying quality and hanging on to it.  In fact, if I can find a place to do the alteration, it may be updated from size 44 to 46 or so and maybe a zip on lower section for keeping the wind from coming up the back.

I have heard good things about Fox Leather too and may have to arrange a ride up to Virginia next summer just to take a look.  I rode about 45 miles last Friday in pouring rain and about 55 to 58 degrees with Draggin Jeans over silk long underwear, long sleeve shirt and short sleeve T shirt over silk long sleeve underwear top topped with the Hein Gerricke and a cheap poncho that  I found and was comfortable.

I bought a jacket from www.leatherup.com with no complaints. Customer service was good too... a big deal for me. There are cheap quality jackets there but the quality does range just like in many stores.

I saw some when I was shopping for mine so I'll keep my eyes peeled. Dunno if this one does anything for ya.
You'll have to ignore the dope modeling it.
