Just curious; did you open up and look at the motor. When it's out , that's the time to make sure everything is in order. Maybe increase displacement, a cam change, those alone can make these bikes go a lot better than stock. Look's good though.

hey laids. I left the motor alone for now. It was running fine last season. My thoughts are if it aint broke dont fix it. I am a boost head, so may wait until somoething goes wrong and then build a turbo motor for it. The shop where the bike is builds all turbo cars and friends of mine. Might just experiment with them.

your build is looking really good.  I have been going back and forth about painting my comstars black.  I think you may have made up my mind.  what kind of paint did you use?

I sent them out for powdercoating. I bought 10#s of Satin Black powdercoating from Eastwood and had everything powdercoated. Wheels, frame, handle bars, foot sets, oil tank, sprocket and on and on.
I like them black as well. Thought it was going to be too black but we'll see when the tank goes on it.

update as of yesterday. Upper triple tree went on with 2.5" gauges, clip-ons, mirrors, handle bar levers, oil tank, painted and installed exhaust. Starting to look like a motorcycle.

So I have some updates as to whats going on. Finally have the whole bike together minus the headlight. I am working on putting an HID in it. Still need to shorten some cables and straighten out a few things. Hope to take her on the first ride this weekend.

This is what I started with:

Looks killer! I've been keeping an eye on your build for a while now. Mine is a 77' as well. Good luck on your first ride with it.

haha, gotta keep the name. Thanks for the kudos. I will snap some movies once everything is done and running. I need to adjust the header. Have an exhaust leak coming from the head. Pipes not mounted properly.
This is my first motorcycle and first motorcycle mechanical lesson. Fairly eay and straight forward to work on. Thank you everyone who gave me info and guidance along the way, even with my stupid questions. Want to build another now.

Looking awesome. Not a big fan of the Comstars (I want spokes on my 78 400A -- I don't know what to do) but if I have to keep 'em, I'm sure I'll get over it. Where'd you buy your exhaust wrap? Dumb question, but it seems kind of expensive where I've found it.

Inferno, I hear you on the comstars, was not really a fan either of them till painting them black. Still rather would have had spokes (black hub and lip, gold plated spokes).
Wrap, I bought from summit racing I believe. 50' of 1" and a can of 2000 degree paint for $65.

Thanks. And they do look a HELL of a lot better black! I may end up having to do that myself. The old guy I got my bike from, strangely, painted the front one black (minus the rim) but left the back alone. *shrug*

Swweeet love the all black look

how much exhaust wrap did you use to cover your headers?  I plan to do the same to mine
