Bedknobs and Broomsticks Motorcycle Trivia Question!
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:57:14 PM »
Angela Lansbury rides a motorcycle w/ a sidecar... referred to as a sulfurous motorcycle.   ???

I haven't seen it but elizabeth and I were discussing Urals and bla,bla,bla... it comes to Bedknobs and Broomsticks!

p.s... more importantly, was it a Ural?

I could only get a very bad picture from a small movie poster.
From what I could make out -especially with the tub on the left- it's probably a vintage Brit bike.  Looks like a girder front end.  Sidecar body all wrong.

look at the right side engine cover... it is horizontally oblong
engine definitely looks like a parallel twin (i prefer inline twin  ;) )
bike is OLD, most likely pre WWII
tank and headlight are also quite distinguishable.

I have lots of good quality screen captures. I tried to pick the ones with the most detail.

Unfortunately, there's no good side shot during the movie.

Yes I did.... I even posted a link to youtube.

I happened to come across a picture of that bike with a sidecar on it. Thought "Hey, maybe that's it? Only modified?".

Not until I saw better pictures of it (just now) was I even able to tell that it was thinner that I previously thought.

Sorry for trying to help you.

It is my understanding, that certain segments of British society substitutes rhyming as a way to obfuscate speech, as a sort of game.
"Taking a piss" became "Taking a Micky Bliss" -Michael being the more formal patois, if you will.  Taking a Micky (or Michael) got shortened over time to "taking a michael".  In other words, an elbow in the ribs, a razzing, kidding, giving you a good-natured hard time.

And Bob's yer Uncle ~

Well, there's a little trick they do for movies- they put various tanks and farkles on small Hondas to make them look the part from a distance.  Hard to imagine they'd thrash a 1914 ANYthing just to make a movie.
