cafe tail light and other ?
« on: November 04, 2005, 02:18:09 PM »
Anyone seen this bike on cb750cafe.com?  In the readers section of Carpy's site I saw this beautiful cafe with a KS tag.  I live in KS as well and I would like to pick this guys brain about this bike.  If he has ever posted here does anyone know his username?

Anyways, I'm wanting to go with the same style cafe seat and I'm confused on how to mount a tail light and blinkers like this bike has.  Is the tail light and plate mount one peice?  What about the blinkers, where can you find blinkers that would mount under the back part of the seat like that?

Mirrors that attach to the ends of the grips like that?  I don't know if these are things you can find readily, I haven't really found too many places that sell cafe parts other than Carpy's and a couple UK sites but I plan on going cafe with the new 1974 cb750 I just bought a few weeks ago.

I was reading up on building fiberglass tanks and then saw how Carpy had hammered the knee inserts on one of his tanks.  I could probably pick up another stock tank at hondchopper.com if I screw up so I would like to maybe try this out using a plastic hammer.  Bondo and sand the dents smooth but I'm worried that each side wouldn't come out even.  Anyone tried this before?

The turn signals on that green bike are from the Custom Chrome V-Twin parts catalogue, atleast they look like they are.. They run about $35 for the pair. They also come with red lenses if you want to go all red in the rear of the bike. He prob. has it wired so the amber lights are his turn signals , and the side mout light is his brake.

In the pic below , you can see my setup. Similar , but my small bullet lights act as marker/running lights , as well as brake lights. My bike no longer has turn signals. I wanted as many brake lights to help keep those Chicago drivers off my ass !!

Bar-end mirrors are readily available , from any decent metric shop. You can even go to a American v-twin shop , and see what they can order you up. Carpy does have some cool stuff , but if you look around , their are many other great places to go for parts. V-Twin shops have lots of parts that can be adapted to these bikes , especially in the lighting department, as well as tires , suspension , etc...Another cool thing is that you can make allot of " Cafe" style parts for your bike yourself. Even something as simple as high temp ceramic paint can make a dull motor look better....

My set up, yet again. Bullet turn signals, small back brake light, bar end mirrors, clip on handle bars.

I was going to include in my post what swing arms are compatable with the honda frame.  I'll be looking into tires soon and I am particular to a wider back tire.

I too would be interested in that.  I have a Performance Bikes magazine  somewhere with a CB750 with an aluminium box section swingarm on it, which I really like, but cant find the mag now, or the pic or ANY info. Frustrating...

ERNEST-----> All I did was take my velocity stacks , and paint them black except for the trim ring.
As you can tell , I am going for the black & silver look on the bike....

CHIPPYFIVE50---->

Awesome bike ! I am digging the white walls. Email me some more pics of your bike if you could. I was considering white walls for my CB , would like to see some more pics...

I like the old beehive taillights. Give a classic look , that is not seen allot on the street anymore. "Tombstone" taillights are nice as well..The custom chrome v-twin parts catalogue has similar taillights such as those .

I am guessing he has mounted the turn signals in the frame holes normally used to mount the chrome tail light rail assembly.  I am using one side to mount a tailight/license bracket assembly on my current project but am not using turn signals on this one.  It's a great spot for a solid mounting and with a fiberglass seat the holes are just exposed with no other purpose.  Mike

I picked that up about the frame holes a couple days ago from looking at so many pics.  Almost meant to be if you use the CR style seat base and that's where I plan to mount the turn signals as well.

I really like the look of your bike so far.  That isn't a stock tank is it?  what's it from?   Are you using drag bars?  where from?  and who did you order your CR seat base from? Does it work with your stock hinges and lock?

Thanks, it's very rough right now as you can see but it's almost ready to tear down and refinish everything.  The tank is stock, the bike is a '77 750F model so the stock tank looks great with this fiberglass seat, the lines look similar like it's a coordinated set-up.  I am using clip ons from parts 'n more and I am in the process of finishing cutting down the triple top clamp bar mounts to make it a clean top surface with the clip ons.  The only issue with the clip ons so far is tank clearance on the stock switches so I am working on creases in the tank to make room for the bars to go to full lock either direction.  The seat is off of ebay from 1hotwing and I mounted it with nylon spacers to suport it along it's length with two bolts mid-way into those two frame gussets, and then made an aluminum bracket that supports the rear on the normal frame loop.  The seat bolts on and off very quickly but it's really solid when installed (I am really happy with it's quality and strength BTW if you are in the market).  I cut the brackets and locks off to clean up the underseat area, the seat lock itself intruded out past the new fiberglass tail/seat section.   It should clean up well with upholstery.

This is my first CB750, It runs and sounds awesome with the 4 into 1 and velocity stacks, I am excited to get it finished this winter .......... ;D
