Frame and rear sets primed, waiting for the weather to warm up before spraying the color.

Laced my first wheels last night, only scratched a couple spots in the enamel on the hubs. Probably should have waited for them to cure a bit...

Waiting on bearings and retainers before i can assemble the wheels and true them.

Tapered bearing kit installed...

Forks rebuilt with Progressive springs, new seals and 15w oil...

Front wheel mounted...

Truing the front wheel...

Should have the swing arm back from Hondaman Tuesday so I can go right into building the rear end and truing the rear wheel. I'm happy the bike is mostly in one location now, instead of being spread throughout the basement and garage in loose parts

Got the swing arm painted, installed and greased and new shocks from CycleX.

Rear wheel installed and trued.

New tires installed. I went with Continental TKV11 front (100/90-19)...

and Continental TKV12 rear (110/90-18)

Now i can sit on it in the driveway and go "Vrooom vroooom!"

Onto the engine...

Here you can see the crack in the case which has been pushed against the gears...

The crack in the lower case is being welded by a friend at the moment while I'm going through the Inspection section of Mark's book. Ordered a gasket/seal kit from CycleX and will probably be ordering a bolt kit as well. Stole my brothers Mikita lithium-ion impact driver which worked awesome with a #3 phillips to get the cover screws out, only had to drill a couple.

nice work lacing the wheels. I want to see if I can do that myself. I have an extra swinger I was gonna use as a truing stand.

how difficult was it? and how much did you save? any idea what buchanans charges for that?

I got the same cycleX gasket kit, the one that comes with oil seals. it's pretty nice.

love how this is looking...can you tell me a little about your fork ears? What year are they and what is the contrasting silver ring? A mod? Stock from a certain year? I am planning to paint/powdercoat mine black as well...yours look very clean and nice...looking forward to watching your progress

Lacing the wheels was very easy actually using the write up under the FAQ section. I don't know what i saved by lacing myself but i did get a quote from a local shop on truing which would have been $60 per wheel. I'm a bit nervous on how i did with truing since I've never done it before. They are close to stock spec and well within serviceable spec but i have yet to get it on the road to actually feel how well I did.

The fork ears I found on ebay and claimed they were from a '72. I bought them just because they didn't have the reflectors and they were painted instead of chrome like my stock '76 ears. When I finally got them though the paint was worse than it appeared with some rust so I sandblasted them only to discover they once had reflectors that were cut off and filled with body filler. So I reapplied more filler and sanded them down, primed and painted. The silver rings at the bottom of the ears were stock from my '76 I believe.

Damn shame about your fork tubes being so rusty....I wonder if it would be a good idea to mask off and give the top area a light coat of rustoleum primer and re-install.... $:-\$

had the same prob and painted mine. as long as the sliding bit has good chrome, you can do it.

Had a welder friend fix the crack in the top case. I'm guessing it was caused by a chain slap when the chain broke possibly? the case was gouged pretty deeply by a chain right near the crack.

Sand blasted the paint off the head, cylinders, and cases. Now I'm cleaning all the fricken blasting media off everything

Hope to have some progress this week and get some paint on.

Cleaned cases and transmission, oil pump rebuilt (it was seized with grit and oil), finished most of the inspection and started assembling.

Cases blasted and painted

Hope the transmission was reassembled correctly

You've got the shift forks in correctly. That was the mistake that I made on my bike.

At least you will have avoided my mistakes.

Sealed the cases up last night. I wasn't expecting the Hondabond to be so runny and kind of made a mess of it. Thankfully my wife is all artsy and had some small paint brushes around, they really helped a lot. I'm sure i forgot something though and will be taking this all apart again in a month

Cleaning and painting the top end now...

Polished aluminum covers which are now in need of more polishing after the engine was installed and got a chrome Allen head bolt kit from CycleX.

Made some quick engine stand adapters from gate hardware, polished head and valves, painted and reassembled.

Cam installed, timed, chain tensioned, everything torqued, tappets adjusted.

Engine installed!

Now all that's left is everything else

I think with the help of some friends of narrowed down the colors i want for the tank and seat. Majority of votes were for an off white or pearl white for the tank and seat with some vintage number decals and Honda wing logo. Need to order more parts quick if I'm going to have this ready for a ride in mid September. Speaking of that, does anyone have a front brake caliper they'd be willing to sell or trade for?

Bike is coming together. Have most of the wiring sorted now. Had to make a few runs out to Alfa Heaven for parts that i was missing or couldn't save. If you have never heard of or been to Alfa Heaven you're REALLY missing out. http://alfaheaven.com/ Had to pickup a right side control housing, headlight bucket, petcock, front brake caliper, and plastic rear fender.

After cleaning my sprockets and chain i see they are pretty well trashed. Anyone suggest a source for new chain and sprockets?

Also got the seat back from my good friends at Perfect Upholstery http://perfectupholsteryllc.com Although i don't know if he's keen on doing any more motorcycle seats after working with this super thick leather and the 8 layers of material he ended up with in the corners of the seats.

The red was a friend's idea and once i saw what he had in mind the bike just came together in my head perfectly. I just have to make that happen physically now!

Carbs cleaned and completely rebuilt, new sprockets and chain, controls installed and adjusted, exhaust installed, and engine topped off with oil but still haven't gotten any oil pressure. Think i'll try the tilting the bike while you kick it over trick. I primed the oil pump before installing but then turned the engine over to adjust the cam timing so it spit out the oil
