After i collect all of the cost factors to see if i can even get this project started i'll let everyone know asap.
I hope the cover's will be under $200.00 for everyone's sake !  Not $400.00 plus shipping for the jap ones.

You also might want to look carefully at the attachment point fittings. Getting them right is the most difficult part of this project, and they have to be properly made to account for the additional weight of the aluminum covers. Even the plastic side covers are too often lost.
I like your idea but I agree with Ricky_Racer.  Had a fiberglassed-repaired one on a K0 once that besides weighing about 10 lbs. it just never fit quite right.  Might have been because the tabs weren't lined up just right but I always thought it might be because it wasn't flexible any more.  I know they make sheet metal ones too but they're pretty light and would seem to bend some.  Maybe something to think about.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a humorous exaggeration.  Anyway, my only point was that the flexibility may be a fit advantage so the tabs would have to be very close.  I think polished they would be a great look.

Hi,

I removed my earlier posting about these covers.  I voted for plain, but have changed my mind to covers with a recess.  You will have the best of both worlds that way.  Recess where you want it and need it........

If you don't like the recess, you can fill it in with your favorite method...... bondo, lead....... old peanut butter & jelly... whatever :P

I would absolutely love metal side covers.

Yes, I would go for a set as long as we are not talking a price comparable to Yamiya......

P.S. After my prior post removal, I was not able to vote again, so, one vote could be added to the recess numbers and one vote subtracted from the plain numbers.

I was thinking of having the tabs made a little longer so that anyone could drill a small hole and pin them if they
wanted to. A little extra insurance is always good. I learned that years ago after i lost a cover on my kawi 1000
that i had just painted !!!

I hear ya JAKNIGHT. I definitly want the covers to be as cheap as i can get them to be so that all of the cb750
owners can enjoy something different. To start off though i will probably only be able to run one design first because
of the cost factor. I'm gonnna know sometime this week.  ;D

Jerry Magnuson built the original ones..

Might be a plan to get a hold of Jerry thru Magnachargers and;
A.. ask if he has any tooling

B ..find out why he quit making them... and how high the reject rate was...

Thanks for the info 754 !   I imagine the demand for the covers way back then fell off as the popularity of the old
cb750 gave way to the newer and better designed motorcycles. I remember in the late 80's real nice clean cb750's
going for 1,000 bucks all day long.  As for the tooling, the foundry probably kept or destroyed it. The same probably
happened to his original small superchargers he used to produce for small engines.  ;D

I didnt read the whole thing but how would these covers attach? I would hope screws would be used since the weight of the aluminum will most likely be more than the original plastic. I would prefer mine without the recess but slots would be cool. 77/78k please!

I think the ones from Yamiya have two top tabs & a hole in the bottom for an allen bolt...

http://www.yamiya750e.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=32_83&products_id=748

I'm in for no recesses

I'd polish them...

ONE THING: I've always wondered whether the R side cover wouldn't get super hot from contact w/ the oil tank. Metal conducts heat way better than plastic and those tanks get hot. Are we all gonna fry our legs  ??? ???

MAN! THESE ARE COOL!!!!!!!!

Ok guy's, just to let you all know i have finally gotten a hold of a local foundry here, and i have talked to the main
man about making the cb750 side covers out of cast aluminum. He is more than willing to help me get the project
off the ground. I have a appointment this friday so that i can show him the stock side covers and then he can tell
me how much the start up costs and how much each set will cost depending on how many sets i order.
Cross yer fingers fellow bikers !  I hope i can make this adventure work for all of us !!!!!    JON G.    ;D

I didn't check "RECESS" or "NO RECESS", I just want some.  ;D
I have 4 CB750s here to build, only 2 sets of (poor at that) side covers. Another 750 is coming soon. One is to be built into a largely custom cafe for a rider with impeccable taste: these covers would be top on my list for that one!
