Worked with a Honda Factory trained mechanic on my 550K today

got the valves adjusted properly, carbs adjusted (but not balanced yet), point gap and timing adjusted. However, looks like I have a bad coil on my 1/4 cylinders. Get a spark, but not a strong one. 2/3 are firing fine. He said he'd stop by monday with another coil. Looks like about all I need now are new tires and a new petcock. WooHoo!

check the ground and all connections on the coil you think is bad. also look at wires and plug caps (ohm meter) file down the stacked metal posts on each end to get to new bright metal before you reinstall. I hit all those newly sanded or filed connections with a shot of clear enamel afte reassembly.

Oxidation=intermitent insulation hence intermittent electrons and faults
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Oxidisation = resistance = heat .....which is much worse, just ask anyone who had their electics melt or ....workshop burn down!
No not me, but it's not an uncommon story.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Turned out to be a carb problem. Low Speed jet on #1 was clogged and fuel wasn't flowing freely, plug fouled so neither #1 nor #4 was firing properly. Fixed it.

A "Honda Factory Trained Mechanic" installed my plug wires on the wrong cyjinders and then tried to tell me the bike was running like #$%*e because it had a burnt valve!
It was running fine when I dropped it off the day before.
Now I do all of my own work.
Your guy sounds trust-worthy;not all of them are.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

This guy has a collection of almost all the SOHC 4s. He's the husband of a co-worker of my wife's. He's got most of the specs in his head. Anyway, he was showing me the proper procedures for tuning and adjusting everything. I told him about this web site.

'78 CB 550K fixer-upper. The bike needs work, I sure don't!
