Front Fork disassembly
« on: November 15, 2005, 04:41:28 PM »
I recently acquired a CB750 K5.  I am in the process of taking apart the forks to replace the oil seals.  I am not sure how to remove the upper tube from the lower case.  My Clymer's manual states to remove inner clip.  Then, remove the upper tube from the lower case.  I tried pulling them apart by hand but had no luck.  Do I just need to pull harder or is there something else that needs to be removed besides the inner clip?

You should find a recessed allen bolt inside the axle clamp, this holds the valve rod in which keeps the fork tube from coming out. The best way to remove this bolt is using a pneumatic impact driver, you'll find it rather difficult to get out with hand tools.

Enforcer, that allen bolt may just spin. The trick is to insert a broom stick inside the fork to hold that inner tube in place. Old time trick I learned here.

Uh oh here we go with all the tips.

An easy way to put the seals in is to buy a short lenght of PVC tube from a hardware or plumbers shop.
