yep, loved those 'boots' too, very practical.

Whenever you have the chance to take a good shot of the bike without the tank and seat, please do, would be lovely to see that frame in detail

(at the end of it, what frame was it?)

Yes great bike Rod.... I think you mentioned modified TZ frame, looks like an early Y brand front end?

Quite an interesting combination.

Thanks Bill - it's a 1978 Yamaha 350 TZe frame, tank and bodywork. Standard front end as far as I know but as you can probably guess, I never did my own spanner work - just wanted to go out and thrash the thing, should have paid more attention.

I'll start a new thread regarding the pics to see if there is enough intrest before I cut my book up, as it is bound rather tight and won't lie flat in the scanner.
There are quite a few good pics in the book of Bill on the Dixon CB500 TT winning production bike, several of the 3 time F2 winner Alan Jackson and quite a few more that might intrest others. I think there is another of Bill on a Dixon Formula bike that is out of this world but not sure which formula.
They will be A4 size printed on gloss photograph quality paper sent out in stiffened photo envelopes plus postage. They should come out around $8/9 and there's a good chance that the Bill smith ones will be signed if I see him on Saturday.

Sam. ;)

sam, when i asked you about a digital camera i wasnt kidding

place the book in front of the camera with good light and the result shouldnt be bad, beats cutting up a book sir....

Don't worry TG, I don't mind cutting it.
The book it bound very tight and won't lie flat and the only camera we have suffers from hand shake and takes blured images. You can see the quality in this thread. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=46104.125
I'll make sure you all get top quality pics.

Yep, I knew about formula II being 350 2stroke and 600 4storke, just never heard about such a mix

didnt remeber that string of wins by Alan Jackson jr.

coming to think of it, anybody's got a pic of Alan Jackson jr. 600cc honda winner of  1977-78-79?.

Sounds like the CB500 biggest sporting achievement ever?

TG, I've located Alan Jackson snr plus the owner Bill Head, the mechanic that built it and the bike itself.
It is in a Pecket McNabb frame and is for sale to anyone with £25,000. :o :o :o

Okay, I'm 29 years old, and even at my age I can remember thumbing through old auto traders and such seeing old race cars/bikes et al darn near being thrown away.  Now if there's a chance Jimmy Johnson or Kurt Bush rubbed his sack on one of the tires it's worth your firstborn's college tuition.  Sigh.  Okay rant over.
Neat looking racer there Rod, and we're all digging the boots; are those Roos (short for "Kangaroos", I know you remember them)?

your right - a lot of great bikes went to the breakers when they couldn't cut it against newer machines. I particularly remember some nice 600 dukes in the F2 races but few seem to have survived, my bike is one of four tz framed 400 & 500 sohc specials that Tony Dunnell built but as far as I'm aware it's the only survivor - I just loved it too much to part with it. The natural place to continue campaigning it was the Forgotten Era club (UK) but they wouldn't accept it because it was a special, fortunately the CRMC now take a more enlighten view. Not sure if the boots are Roos, I still have the leathers but cant get them past my fat arse.

Hei Rob

Nice that it survived, but now that it did,  ;) ,  what about some proper pics of it? We are dying to see how that sohc4 was shoehorned into that twin frame!

Cheers

Heyyy , someone should start an HRC Clutch basket thread.. ;), and talk about them..

That Bigass conical Lockheed Disc brake hub,, there was one around here in 72ish, on a Rickman Norton with 41mm rickman forks (not like those in the pic).. had  Goodyear ?trigonics? on it.. :o.. pretty cool stuff for a 15 yr old that was dying to get his first bike.. ;)
