I bought some big saddlebags and I'm converting to HM341's (from 4-1 MAC) on my K6.  With the MAC, I think I'm ok but the 4-4's are gonna cause problems.  Some saddle bags are sloped on the bottom.... you might consider that.

My big reason for getting big saddle bags was that I have a huge laptop (17" screen) that I wanted to tote back and forth to work.  Well, I'm not so convinced it's gonna work out.  I'm thinking netbook PC now (something like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4303044&CatId=3987) which is a boatload smaller.  I'm waiting for more memory and better CPUs... soon I hope.

Saddle bags. I wish I had purchased the sloped ones so I could put my feet onto the rear passenger pegs on longer rides. I ride a little 1981 Passport c70 and use the rear passenger pegs all the time. It must be a habit now because when I ride the cb550 I always want to put my feet back there on the pegs ( a bad habit ). Its probably a good idea to keep the feet on the cb550 in front because bad things happen to fast. To carry a laptop it might be better to have the square bags. Just tossing ideas out.

I had ABS Bates bags on my 750 originally and I'm pretty sure I got exhaust blackening on the back/undersides. If I were mounting larger bags now with the original pipes I would fasten a steel plate under the bag with standoffs.

Andy,

Those Motopak saddlebags are the 40s? Do you know if the 60s would fit? Also, how do yours affect the rear turn signals?

Sorry for the delay in replying but was out of internet access for a few days.....

the 60s should fit fine I think. I put my bags kind of over my turn signals (short stems) and they were fine with passenger on back..no complaints from anyone  ;)

Id buy the 60s if I were getting another set...i think they have stopped making the 40s. The length the bag sits down is adjustable so should still clear the exhaust.

cheers
