I brought this 72 750K home tonight. The VIN would make it a 71, but the State registration says it's a 72. The wife looks at me and says, "nice - who are you, the guy from Pulp Fiction?"

A call it Choppa Dookie.

It's actually a pretty solid start. It was taken down to the frame by someone along the way, repainted - along with the engine - repainted. They even went back buzzed the cooling fins on the head. Nice touch. Looks like they took a poop when it came time to put some body parts on tho. In case it's not clear, the easy rider +6 "Forks by Frank" will be coming off. Got a bucket load of parts that came with it - mostly junk, but a spare front wheel, rotor, caliper seems in good shape.

The bad ...

No real key for the ignition switch. Has some small brass key being used to jimmy the ignition switch on/off.
Bad state of tune with the carbs.
Clutch chatter.
Front brake is like mashing potatoes. Scary. Plus side, the back brake works like gang busters.
Needs a seat (already on order)
Needs paint/body work. Still brain storming exactly what I want to do with this one.
Change the forks out to a -1 .... hmmm ...

Been ordering parts and things are shaping up. Not going to be able to dive hard into this project right away. Leaving for a 4 day ride starting this Thursday. Whoohooo! Taking my Triumph Bonneville, so no CB pics this trip.

First off - props to the RickyRacer. My seat was at my door in 2 days!!
The seat bolts right on - NO MODs - and very light weight compared to the original.

1. The new fork tubes, seals, gaiters.

2. Low riser clip ons - test fitting to the new fork tubes

3. Rear sets - test fitting mount location to frame

Now THAT is a well made seat!

It has the proper bumper to rest on the frame rail (stock seat has two but the right side is redundant since it's supported by the hinges on the right side. It also has bumpers to land on the cross member at the latch. Lots of seats leave out things like that.

I'm also digging on the rearsets, what are they?

Nice project. I'm wondering how do they attach the leather/vinyl to the fiberglass seat? Do they staple it or maybe glue it? Do you know?

I had trouble deciding what direction I wanted to go with this one. Benjie tank again? Carpy tank? Finally just decided to give it an old skool makeover and get some stock tank/side covers repainted. Some color this time - not black. Along the lines of pure 70s funk-a-licious. What color would Boosty Collins and the Rubber Band paint it? Ahhh yeah ... that's funky baby. Nah - wait ... he'd probably paint it purple with some gold trim.

Got the parts in from the painter and couldnt just sit them on a shelf til things get sorted ...
so I had to put on some of the best 70s sunshine and test fit them.

Made some progress on the bike. It's not 100% done - but boy it's close. I'm gonna need a new gas cap - something I should of thought about a couple months ago ... so it's covered back up and hidden til then. Oh yeah, I decided to give this bike to my wife for her 40th b-day ... and she doesnt know it. She also hasnt seen the bike since I brought it home - been hiding it. She already has a Triumph Bonneville and doesnt really pay much attention to the other bikes in the garage.

Got the forks/brakes swapped out. Put the rear sets on. Decided to use a super bar instead of the clip ons. Had some pieces powdered coated, rims, fork legs, brakes, and had some new tires put when the rims were re-laced with new spokes.

Started swapping over the new painted body parts when I figured it deserves a new gas cap and not the old ragged out one. Snapped a pic and hid it back under some covers.

All original (including paint) except for some Eibach springs, 77k miles.

well ... Deb's b-day aint for another 2 weeks or so - but I was so excited to be finished with the 72' on Sunday that I presented it to her after having dinner with friends. Needless to say, she was not expecting it. She had forgotten all about the choppa I bought a couple months ago ... and even thought this was a completely different bike. I had to show her the old parts I swapped out to convince her. The sh.t eaten grin was enough to know she loves it. It was raining Sunday/Monday and she had to work today. I've been out on it all morning making sure everything is right and tight so she has no worries.

SURPRISE!!! Happy 40th birthday.

Thanks guys. When we have a nice day weather-wise ... I'll get some video of Deb riding.

The bike turned out so nice that now I'm thinking of getting another one and build it for myself. The riding position, handling, braking .. it all came together on this one. I love my 76' SS - it's an awesome bike - but I'm liking this one even better.
