Magura throttle??? someone please inform me!
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:36:04 PM »
hey guys.  i got a big box of parts when i bought my spare motor awhile ago.  it came with this single pull throttle that i know nothing about.  all i can gather from it is that it's a Magura and it's single pull.  i haven't tried taking it apart yet, as i wanted to know as much about it as possible.  here's a couple pictures of it in case anyone can give me any info!  please help!  thanks...

side pull, whirl pull, several different names for these...most of them made for motocross bikes or 2 strokes...The throttle could be a 1/4 turn...meaning it only rotates very little to get full throttle..Then again I could be totally wrong on all accounts..

kevins,

you are right.  it is a 1/4 turn.  i just twisted it and from stop to stop, it was about 100 degrees of rotation.  any advantages to this?  to me it seems like it would just be hard to really feather the throttle precisely?

how about the brand?  is it a good one?

well the advantage to short action on the throttle, is your wrist/arm isn't in funny/uncomfortable angles when flailing around the track....The other advantage is two strokes rev quicker=quicker throttle...Magura is a pretty good brand, been around for years..

does anyone have a 1/4 turn on their bike?  i'm considering using this since it's kind of a cool part.  also, what are some of the advantages/disadvantages of using a single pull throttle?

You dont have to grab a "2nd handfull"

You will have to make a cable, & cant run return cable.

Well I've read before that a problem with the single pulls is that if you break down, you don't have a "backup" cable to get you to a repair shop.  Also, with a single cable, can I still get the stock carbs to work?

carbs will still work with single cable...carry a extra cable with you if you are worried about one breaking...You will need a different pull cable..have one made or source one off a different bike..
