Dead Battery Start
« on: October 18, 2009, 03:17:06 PM »
What is the correct starting procedure for a cb500 with a dead battery? Ive never had to do a push start before, but recent battery troubles make me think that its pretty inevitable. Thanks in advance for you help.

Hello -

These bikes have battery excited ignitions, they will
not start with a dead battery no matter how far
you push it.

No wonder. I though maybe I was just doing it incorrectly. Oh well, its charging now. Thanks.

You can jump start it from a car battery using cables. Car engine not running.

Hmmm... Theres enough juice in the battery to light up the indicators and a dim headlight, but it still won't start up with the kickstart. I wonder if the problem is something else and not the battery.

Kill switch in the right position?

Yea, the switch is in the run position. The kickstart just seems to be little more finicky than the push button.
