garage full of vintage parts
« on: January 04, 2010, 07:05:51 AM »
I found an add on craigslist for a "restored tank" and since it was going to cost me 4-600 for paint on my tank - decided to take a lok at the one online. It was perfect, to say the least. I bought it, anyway while he was showing me another tank, I glanced around his garage and was just speechless!

He only had 1 bike, a nice 350 that was all original. But he had 2 rickman fairing hanging from the ceiling, a rack of frames for 750s 550s and I'm sure more. He had shelves full of gas tanks and boxed full of swing arms, wheels, rotors, tires, and more.

He wasn't interested in parting with a fairing, but he did offer me a swing arm with a disc and m/c for a good price.

Just got me thinking... How many of you guys have a garage full of parts?

If I had a garage I'm sure it would be full of parts and a couple more bikes. For now I have a shed and basement!

One-half of my garage wall has 26 sets of pipes for CL72 & CL77 Scramblers hanging from rubber-padded hooks. Another wall has 16 gas tanks on a shelf. Then there are the multiple drawers full of small parts.  I keep the painted and ready to use tanks and other body parts in my heated basement, and the re-chromed sets of pipes under my bed.....right next to my 44-Mag. Oh, and then there is the shed full of 750 sohc bikes and parts.....only 5 tanks and 3 spare motors right now.................

I'm starting to get a decent collection of parts. I have an entire cb200 minus a frame in a box, and a handful of spare parts for each of my 4 other bikes. I'm in the process of building some wooden shelves to organize my spare parts. The garage has 11 foot ceilings, so i'm going to make use of that. The shelves will be tall enough off the floor to park my bikes under. I should be able to park a car in that bay again.

Yes, a lot of parts - for 3 bikes and a shifter kart. Luckily, it's a 3 car garage and can fit 2 cars in there too.

As far as complete and running, drivable... only one. he could probably build a few from the parts.

I just started this thread, because I have to plan for the size of the garage. Going to be buying one this year, and I really don't think a 2 car is going to do. I already have one of those full of car parts and it's not even mine!

Maybe I'll have to get a pull barn  ::)
Then I'll have room for the 100 gal compressor, blasting cage...or room.
Maybe a paint booth ;D

And gotta have room for the Jeep and cuda I plan to build ;D

I know if I have kids first, this stuff will never come, so I gotta hurry. The g/f is already nagging about getting married

It can be done with patience, while raising my family I built a 40 chevy street rod, went drag racing and now back to 750's. The trick is to include the family in the process. My wife was a little reluctant with the race car until my daughter won the first race we went to, then we won a really big race with tough competition, that set the hook.

Guilty as well. Got a one car garage full of the stuff, a 12 x 14 building out back that's full, a swingset frame (minus swings and such), with "Project Bikes" in there and tarps tied down on it, a small building (used to be a play house) full, and a few more "Project Bikes" in the back yard, covered with tarps. Yeah, I guess you could say that I have a few parts laying around. ;D

Now, personally, It sounds like I'd like to get to know old Scrambler, as I have some CB77 Super Hawk Stuff, a 63' CL72 Scrambler (that is mostly there and disassembled) along with a "Roller' 67' CL77 (minus the engine, front fender, electrics and such).  ::)

It's not that I have a garage full of parts, I really just have a 'one of everything' set of replacements for my 650 and a crapton of stuff for my 350... this stuff is hard to find online sometimes...

It's not my fault honest! I only got one bike, the GSX400 is Jaffas and so is the pink Chinese scooter, the CBR400RR is my sons!
However there is always room for one more if a cheap enough 750 comes my way. ;D

Heh heh! I bought my house BECAUSE of the garage - it's a four car garage right under the floor pan of the house (we live on a hill). I've got 9 bikes in there, a bike trailer, bench, lathe drill and a 1980 Bally wide body space invader pinball machine and there's still room for more. Guess what my favourite "room" in the house is  :D

Wow! Now a 4 car garage sounds like what I need! Is your favorite room the bathroom?

Just kidding, I would just put a bed and a fridge in that garage and never need to go in the house!
