These instances remind me of why I should stay out of these arguments. Half of you hate me now, fine. Smite me all you want.

Hopefully, there is enough understanding and tolerance on this forum to accommodate both sides of any issue.  ;)

Jonesy, no offense meant or taken.
I love the fact that any and all discussion is welcome on this forum, and I love even more that regardless of any differences of opinion the members may have, we keep in mind that we have a common passion and always treat each other with the respect we all deserve.  That is an extremely rare thing to find on the internet, and that is the sole reason I have been a member of this group for as long as I have.  Keep posting, and more importantly, Keep Riding! ;D ;D ;D

"One of the most depressing days of my life was when GW got re-elected. I just couldn't believe people could be that easily manipulated and led."

My bumper sticker last election said, "I Wish I Had Someone To Vote For".  I couldn't believe it either, but was prepared for the worst remembering how Reagan got re-elected.  On the other hand, who in thier right mind could vote for  the mumbo-jumbo king?  The voters of this country were horribly short changed in the name of expediency and panic. Nobody in his right mind would ever run for the office. No one in this country would vote for a person who told the truth.
I'll sit down now.

Come to think of it... El Gordo must be moving. Seems like he should be riding his horse through the saloon doors by now.

Well put, gordon. Thanks! :)

I think George Carlin hit it right on the head: "Honesty would f*ck this country up!! The entire system would collapse!! No one would know what to do!!"

Amen Brother!!!!!

So, it sounds like what you guys are saying is ol' Dubya is a terrorist and all who voted for him are terrorists.

Man Jonesy, I hope you were not lumping me into that category, cause I never said any of that. I believe that only one person made that statement, not all of the "guys" on the forum.

Gosh, I sure miss the days when this country was more unified.

While I can understand where this feeling comes from and can appreciate it, unified is again subjective.
The states and people have not been "unified" through much of their history. Perhaps this is one reason that the times that they were most "unified" stand out more positively in our minds.

we have all been duped.

ElCheapo, I don't think we've all been duped. I think many people have seen the current Admistration for what it is. Just they did it's predecessor.

I am just saying that.......... no one cares and it shows.

Many are complacent and ambivolent to the world around them, El Cheapo, clearly you are not one of them.

No, Ed. I didn't mean you. I went off on a rant, and didn't convey myself well. Sorry, man.

True, the term "unity" is a relative term. It just bothers me that lately many people have to pit themselve against others. It's as if to say you are on one side of the fence or the other; Either you are with me or against me... No middle ground for compromise in viewpoints. Very extreme!

Someone made a comment the other day that made a lot of sense. (Particularly to those of us who live around the motor city. "I think the this country is much like the Detroit Lions football club. Canning Matt Millen won't automatically turn them into a wining team. Ousting George W. won't solve all the problems in one fell swoop, either..."

Well, ok I'll bite. But 1st I must say, have you heard or said the following lately:
"I support the troops in (whereever), but don't necessarily agree with the war/confilict/revolution."

Hmmmm. To me this statement would have been uttered regardless of whom is in the Oval Office,
ie, president of the US. The USa is not run by the president, it is run by Congress last I heard, and the
president approves or disproves his actions.

PS. Don't blame me, I always vote for Pat Paulson or Mickey Mouse, never a democrat or republican,
because there is no difference between the 2 parties that suck $ from the lower classes and line
the pockets of the top 10%.
Mickey Mouse would never do that.

BTY, how long do you think the NSA has been trowling for posts like this?

Answer: as long as the British (MI-5) have been reading all outgoing emails.

What ? What you say? Come on you Bristish guys, how long ago was that
bill passed? 2-3 years?  Seems like almost a co=incidence that the time
frame is almost the same.

And I am NOT being paranoid!

I have a solution: let's just get rid of all politicians above mayors, and ride off into the sunset on our
SOHC's. We will all have more $ in our pockets and life would be grand, maybe. ???

Ah, nice to know Pogo's progeny are protecting us from ourselves.

BTY-all new GM and Ford cars have computer chips that monitor speed, engine rpms, time brakes applied, etc etc for, usually 5 seconds before and after, a sudden stop/engine failure. This helps the II (insurance industry) to better understand accidents (or so I am led to believe).

How much longer before these chips are in our motorcycles? Or are made manditory for inspection?

Every car journey to be monitored by satellite!

How can this actually be done, when many cars are old and without computer chips?

My prayers go out to all the Vermonter National Guardsmen, some my friends and neighbors, spending their Chrismas in Iraq.

peace,
michel

Michel - I think the satellite bit is the way that the cameras are linked together and to the central database of registration numbers.

I've seen on a motoring programme here in UK that license plate theft is now more common than car theft!

If the cameras face oncoming traffic then we are OK!

Yep, I agree. Like I quoted before, we (Americans) are always trading more of our freedom for the illusion of safety.

I think I'll put down George Carlin as a write-in candidate for the next election... ;D

In my last post I mentioned Gordo- I meant El Buffwad. Sorry Gordo.
Re Mickey Mouse- he can't do it becuase he doesn't have any pockets.  In fact the Christian Right terrorists would never let him get nominated in the first place- MM doesn't even wear pants!
RE a more unified nation; I suspect "media" is changing things. I can't imagine black folks, native Americans, poor folks, any citizens coming from the far Eastern countries, etc would say we had a more unified country. I still remember some Japanese kids in the '60s getting harassed in school for Pearl Harbor. Now, various segments of society are speaking up and the media is covering it.  Also a big reason that local dialects and accents are fazing out.
I was overjoyed that the bill funding the war in Iraq got rejected because of that rider regarding Alaskan drilling. I didn't hope they would have the guts to do that.

Whew, glad that one didn't go through! I'm pretty sure what killed it was rumors that the Russians were contemplating taking over Alaska. They kept spouting something about manifest destiny and about our failure to utilize the land to the fullest extent. Think of all the wasted money had that bill gone through and the Russians moved in.

With the current events in DC, I've heard there is a new NSA reform bill in the works, but it's likely to be killed because of a controversial Cheng Shinn waste tire disposal rider.

Maybe we can pull the troops home and help the public fight here.
I think a few of the people on 9/11 would have liked some help.
This has been one of the longest times in recent history we havent been attacked.
Thank you El Cheapo for your service.

Yes!  Speaking of 9-11....Why the hell does BinLaden still walk this earth!?  Dont forget that was a precursor to the war(on terrorism).  This is a man who we knew was/is funding terrorist groups(with his and his familys billions NOT Saddams $).  A man who we knew funded the first WTC attack and several others.  A man whos exact location we knew of after those attacks.  In fact we had a military presence capable of taking him and and his camp out, a couple times accually, while he was being harbored by Pakistan durring the Clinton era.  We did nothing.  Think about it.  So we chased this guy around in Afganistan for a while and then what?  We attack Iraq?  WTF!  We failed to kill this bastard.  WHY?!!!!  These terrorist are smart, brutal, fighting guerilla style at a large scale, and most importantly they absolutely hate us with their entire beings AND they have a religion that has been twisted into catalyst that tells them they should!  They believe that in this life there is only suffering and impurity.  That this indeed is not the REAL life but only a trial so they can live eternally in a paradise that sounds suspiciously like what they hate about America.  And to get there they must die a glorious death taking as many of their sworn enemies with them.  Is this more about their hatred for Christians though?  Or mabey they they just lump America and Christianity(a twisted form of it) into one catagory and say,"hell, kill em all!"  Remember the Crusades?  Remember who the Christians attacked?  Remember where most Christians came from at the time?  And where do most of those Christians' offspring now reside?  USA.  Besides, how were the crusades or any religion driven war(most wars) different than what these guys are doing now?  Killing others because you hate the ideas by which they live and because you know you are right.  Damn religion pisses me off!  If it werent for those few brilliant and brave individuals who where not affraid to question and challenge it, and werent affraid of the consequences, none of the technology, knowledge, health, science, chemistry, physics, astronomy...freaking everything we now enjoy in life would not exist.  Wed be praying to some god or another to cure cancer instead of figuring out ways to cure it OURSELVES using OUR minds!  And yet the vast majority of us still cling to these self serving, self deceiving, force fed superstitions instead of activly seeking the truth ourselves?  Actually its easy to do and I can see how a great deal of comfort and meaning can be drawn from religion and people desperately need those things in this world of confusion and insignificance.  But damn it people!  Its time to move on to the next level of our existance and to stop living life like its only a shadow of whats to come in death and to stop living like the end is coming so the future of our species, and fellow species isnt all that important.  Like god will take care of it all.  Its time to change the way we think and view ourselves, big time......Meanwhile we still bicker about weather creationism or evolution should be taught to our children and fight eachother in a purely basic and ego driven manner...but were not animals, were devine!  Bull#$%*.  I very much fear for our future and current events scare me to my core.  Especially because I am by far a minority in my views and I WILL REFUSE!  I WILL RESIST! so.....Ill be killed as a heretic.. oh well.

BTW I applaude you guys for your ability to have arguments and yet remain civil and respectfull, and intelligent about it.  Rock on.
