Subject Line Etiquette
« on: November 22, 2009, 10:22:01 AM »
Just my little pet peeve: I would like to propose that everyone precede their posts in the subject line with the model in question.

Like "CB750K2- wheel bearing problem" or such

This would preclude the need for us asking the poster what model it is, or finding the model in question buried in the text somewhere. Or opening the link at all when its something not so interesting to someone.

If everyone did this, it would become apparrent in the forum index that that is the preferred method of posting and newbies might get the hint early on.

Just my little thing no big deal, we'll survive either way.

Thanks guys. It doesn't have to be a rule. If a bunch of us do it, it will catch on.

I wish it would catch on but you know it wont.  You can wish in one hand and $hit in the other and see which on fills up first.

Ha!  Well put. ;D

I doubt it will catch on, but it would be great if it does.  Too many people just don't pay attention to the details of what's going on around them.  Look at how many tech questions keep getting moved out of the "Tricks & Tips" section, even though there's a bold print, sticky subject line at the top of the page that says "Technical questions DO NOT go in this thread, use SOHC/4 Bikes".

I think the only way it would ever happen is if there were a required field to fill in the model of bike in question before being able to post the question.

Ha! Ha! Terry's already lost! :D  Just kidding Terry. :)  Of course that is a GREAT idea, but like Gordon said, there are a number of folks who post like they are doing it in the Dark or something. ::) And I have seen it take several posts on a thread, for the originator to actually come out and give ALL of the info that should have been out there in the beginning. :-X  Now, if we ALL try to do it this way, maybe at least a number of folks will pick up on it and reduce the number of folks doing it the other way.
Maybe? ???

                                            Time will tell, Bill ;)

Yeah and when they have something to sell and talk about wanting the parts picked up and yet, neglect to say just where he is, so folks will know if they can go THAT far or not. ::)

And Terry, I ain't using YOUR oil, but I DO appreciate your comment about my car. :D ;)

Amen! I had a customer call in last week looking for a throttle cable. When asked what he wanted it for he replied "for a throttle." I asked again, what does it fit? "The throttle." Again, "Buddy if your next words don't include a year, make and model, we are done!" Some people! It does get a bit old, "wanted, parts for a 750" with no other description in the subject line.

Sounds like a great idea.  Sometimes I see a thread titled "HELP!!!!" or something like that.  Kind of vague, and not much help for others searching for the same problem.
