Oil Question- READ: NOT AN OIL THREAD!!!
« on: December 03, 2009, 12:03:19 PM »
Put down the flamethrowers and popcorn please fellow peanut gallery hooligans.  ;)

I bought some Castrol Actevo X-TRA 4T Part Synthetic 10W-40 motorcycle oil.
Bought it at the local cycle gear because the dude said it is ok to use for any kind of motorcycle including wet clutch bikes.

Will this be ok to use for my next oil change coming up soon on my 1973 750? I normally use the Castrol 10W40 4T regular moto oil or should I put it in the '86 VFR750F?

Yea or nay?

With that specific oil (Castrol Actevo X-TRA 4T Part Synthetic 10W-40 ) what you really want is someone to say:

Yes I've used it and its fine.

Or

No I've used it and it screwed up my bike.

Baring that your fishing for opinions.

Course you could always pour it in and give us a report  ::)

Otherwise you've started an Oil thread

Having the word "oil" in the title makes it an oil thread.  The fact that it's about synthetic oil is just icing on the cake!

Looks like the parts Dude was correct or at least repeating what Castrol has to say about it.

My "parts dude" has been in the business for 32 year and is the only fellow I would take at his word.  He knows his stuff.

How well you do know this guy?  If not at all, I would assume he is as dumb as a stump until he proves otherwise.

Whether it would be good or not depends on what type of tires you have on your bike....

If it's not one of those 'friction reducer' filled, 'energy saving' type oils you should be alright.

This thread needs more bacon!

This is according to my buddy at the local Honda Shop. If you use motorcycle synthetic oil your safe. No it doesn't have to be Honda brand. Automotive synthetics have friction reducers in them and that is why your clutch starts slipping. I don't use synthetic in my K4 I use Castrol 10w40 motorcycle oil. All I can say is use your own judgement. And yes you started an oil Thread :D :D :D :D

Oil threads.... always a slippery slope. Just out of curiosity, why even try it when you can just get some dino oil and go with the flow? Puns included at no extra charge, oh wait that one is for the battery thread.

well, the motor is considerably quieter with the castrol edge and after a 50 mile ride today no clutch slippage yet.
