There are definitely things that Apple does better than Microsoft, but for my money and my computing needs a Mac just isn't worth it.  That video is one of the worst examples of trying to convince Windows users that Mac is better that I've ever seen.  I wonder how much time he wasted on that. ::)

I move a lot of windows around, and don't necessarily want them going full-screen on me because I'm trying to drag them half off-screen.

Hear that ticking sound, 70cbk0?  That's your Mac about to have a kernal failure.  They are no different than PCs.  Everything goes south sooner or later.

Take my daughter's, for example.  She needed one for college.  Macs do handle video better, and she was in a video program.  We got it her sophomore year.  With a 4 year service plan.  It started failing that last year of the service plan.  They replaced everything except the case, and still couldn't fix it.  They gave up after the service plan expired.  She ended up getting another one.  But she only uses it for video, and she has a PC for her LIFE.

The semi amusing part of the repair process?  The local Apple store has a service department called "The Genius Bar".  To have your computer worked on, you MUST schedule it online.  But what do you do if your computer is BROKEN??  You've just lugged this boat anchor into a mall(not a short walk), and they make YOU go to a demo computer in the show room and make your appointment.  The "genius" behind the counter can't seem to figure out how to do it himself.  STOOPID!!
Go metric, every inch of the way!

That guy creates a lot of folders and then expands the view to pick out the one he "wants."  But how does he know which one to click when they all look the same and are too small to see on the screen?

I have a Mac by the way, and when I have a lot of windows open it's hard to find the one I want when I expand the view like he does in the video.

Yeah, that vid is not a convincer.

Macs are very nice when you need them (I need my laptop to run Pro Tools) but in the end it's just an overly expensive toy.

As for all the "My PC can do that!" comments, note that Mac OSX was able to do all that screen flipping and window organizing stuff LONG before Vista or Windows 7 came out.  Compared to Windows XP, the Mac was light years ahead in convenience and usability.

I have been using MACs for 7 years now and I have no flipping idea what he was doing in that video.  There was no point to it.

I am not interested in a MAC debate.  To each thier own.

These discussions always amuse me.

I'm a technician. I fix computers for a living. I build and design networks, servers, CAD machines, everything.

It's really simple.
Macs break (hardware wise) just as much as PC's. The difficulty and cost of fixing them, however, is ten fold.

Macs ARE easier to use, especially for people who run one or two programs of importance, listen to music, and web-surf, doing little else.

The macs with the IBM CPU's, the G line, were almost never faster at any task than their AMD and Intel counterparts. Not video, not music, not anything.

The new macs use intels cpus, same as Dells, and everything else. Since windows has better OGL implementation, anything requiring OGL works a tad faster on the windows machines. Remember, macs and PC's are virtually identical at a hardware level now.

Macs generally use MUCH HIGHER quality LCD's in their machines than most PC's made by large corporations. You will almost always have better picture quality on the Mac, due to their very nice LCD screens.

OSX is based on BSD, a very close cousin of *nix. Thats why you dont get viruses, though I did actually see Safari get infected with a piece of java  malware recently. First time I've ever seen it. So weird.

If you don't want viruses, run a Mac. Or, conversely, build or buy a faster PC for half the cost and run Linux as your main OS. Virtualbox a windows XP machine to watch your netflix streaming crap.
Or learn how not to get viruses on your windows box. Not that difficult, honestly.

I've installed windows 7 on three new macs in the last week. People like thier Macs because they are 'hip'. They need windows to actually do business and get things done.

Why do you think windows is so un-secure? It's because you can run damned near ANYTHING on it, that's what people need when they aren't just using their computer for photoshop, email and porn-watching.

As far as protools, it works on PC too, it's not just a mac application.

But hell, who needs that when you can get a complete recording studio for free with Ubuntu Studio, which runs with a real-time kernel which reduces latency by 4 or 5 times compared to OSX or Windows.

The fact is, there is no argument over computers any more. Only operating systems. You can't say "Macs are better" or "PC's are better", because they are all the same freakin thing at this point. The argument is between OSX, Windows, and whatever else is out there.

You like OSX, cool. You like windows, cool. You like *nix, cool. Fact is, one of them is better than the others depending on what you are doing. Figure those out, and you figure out what you need. As I said, for me, OSX was a waste of drive space, nothing i need to do can't be done better on Windows and *nix. That doesn't mean it doesn't have it's uses for other people. Just none for me.
No.

well said Mark ..and a little enlightening to boot
i haven't seen the inside of a Mac in years and years

my beef with them was always that you couldn't (simply) open it up and upgrade it like PCs
guess thats not really the case anymore as far as hardware

i know that some new Macs can run PCI-E x16 cards , and i think some even have the new i7 (not totally sure tho)

but as far as software, i can't really knock OSX too much cuz i've only used it a little bit....  but it was just too .... different

Yeah, Macs used to be better for graphic arts stuff like photoshop and for music mastering and recording with Pro Tools and other sound software but it sounds like that probably isn't the case anymore.
