These discussions always amuse me.
I'm a technician. I fix computers for a living. I build and design networks, servers, CAD machines, everything.
It's really simple.
Macs break (hardware wise) just as much as PC's. The difficulty and cost of fixing them, however, is ten fold.
Macs ARE easier to use, especially for people who run one or two programs of importance, listen to music, and web-surf, doing little else.
The macs with the IBM CPU's, the G line, were almost never faster at any task than their AMD and Intel counterparts. Not video, not music, not anything.
The new macs use intels cpus, same as Dells, and everything else. Since windows has better OGL implementation, anything requiring OGL works a tad faster on the windows machines. Remember, macs and PC's are virtually identical at a hardware level now.
Macs generally use MUCH HIGHER quality LCD's in their machines than most PC's made by large corporations. You will almost always have better picture quality on the Mac, due to their very nice LCD screens.
OSX is based on BSD, a very close cousin of *nix. Thats why you dont get viruses, though I did actually see Safari get infected with a piece of java malware recently. First time I've ever seen it. So weird.
If you don't want viruses, run a Mac. Or, conversely, build or buy a faster PC for half the cost and run Linux as your main OS. Virtualbox a windows XP machine to watch your netflix streaming crap.
Or learn how not to get viruses on your windows box. Not that difficult, honestly.
I've installed windows 7 on three new macs in the last week. People like thier Macs because they are 'hip'. They need windows to actually do business and get things done.
Why do you think windows is so un-secure? It's because you can run damned near ANYTHING on it, that's what people need when they aren't just using their computer for photoshop, email and porn-watching.
As far as protools, it works on PC too, it's not just a mac application.
But hell, who needs that when you can get a complete recording studio for free with Ubuntu Studio, which runs with a real-time kernel which reduces latency by 4 or 5 times compared to OSX or Windows.

The fact is, there is no argument over computers any more. Only operating systems. You can't say "Macs are better" or "PC's are better", because they are all the same freakin thing at this point. The argument is between OSX, Windows, and whatever else is out there.
You like OSX, cool. You like windows, cool. You like *nix, cool. Fact is, one of them is better than the others depending on what you are doing. Figure those out, and you figure out what you need. As I said, for me, OSX was a waste of drive space, nothing i need to do can't be done better on Windows and *nix. That doesn't mean it doesn't have it's uses for other people. Just none for me.
