Alright.  I can do this.  Somehow the learning curve on knowing what parts are what and where they go always goes easier for me than the learning curve on exactly how to do something right, and when it feels 'right' and how to know.  I'm sure it'll be one of those things where when everything is right, I'll just 'know' and then I'll kick myself for being so intimidated in the first place.

That's exactly how I would do it too Kit.

Twins are easy to diagnose, hang both of your hands limply behind each pipe at same time, you will feel the difference between the pressures emitted.

I think my main problem is trying to get those throttle cables to open at exactly the same time.  I thought I was right on last time and I was way, way off... All the manual says is "watch and see when they go up at the same time"  well... duh!

the trick is to look in between the two, where the cables pick the levers up. you have to find just the right angle, but you can see both at once.

Go here and look at the "Carb Setup" procedure - it's the same on 350 and 450...

Unfortunately this and basically everything in my life is sort of on hold while I'm in school.  I'd been told "By the way, prepare to not have a life for two years."  I thought "they" were joking, or exaggerating the way "they" do when scaring the newbies. After looking around online, I think I got a roll of them from reflectivedecals.com.  I would like to note that while they look awesome, if you stretch them too much during application they WILL crack.  In the case of my bike, I thought it added some character to it and left the two or three little cracks in.

Hey TBP, thanks for that link.  I know Paul really tried to show me what he was doing but I think it's one of those things that until you've done it a few times, you just can't acquire a decent feel for it.  How much work was it to tap the manifolds with those vacuum barbs?  Would you say it's worth it for a weekend rider?  Eh, what am I saying, I've hardly gotten in the garage for awhile now.    It just seems wrong to me that engineers would leave something like carb synchronization to something as subjective as exhaust pressure on the hands.

the thing is, that's how pretty much all twins were synced decades prior... it's one of those technological hindsight kind of things. once something becomes standard, you wonder why it wasn't always done that way. the most important thing is the cable synchronization though. get that wrong at it will run like absolute crap above idle.

Well, they didn't ask for my advice when they designed it, so........
Manifold taps are a great, cheap mod for any of these twins.
If you ever decide on 2-into-1 exhaust, they're an absolute necessity.

Turned my attention to the CL350 I've been thinking hard about selling for tuition money.  Tested its battery (a Yuasa that's been sitting a year without trickle charger on it) 11.6ish.  Figure "what the hell, I'll kick it. If it doesn't start, I'll feel even better 'bout selling it."  It started on the first try.  Cheeky little betch.  Took it for a quick spin in the rain and it kept impressing me with how much zip it had even with old gas and a low battery.  I caved, admitted defeat and decided to keep it. Gotta change that headlight bulb though.  Looks like a chipmunk holding a candle in there!

MickeyX was very happy, and I was, too, I'll admit.  It costs naught but $80/yr to keep in the stable and insured, and is a serious head turner every time it's out, so yeah, it's mine for a bit longer, I think. 'course now that I feel like I want a future with it, I now look at it and say "Man, I really want to change that tail light, and it needs bar end mirrors to be street legal....

Can anyone recommend some cheap bar end mirrors that don't vibrate too bad?  I know you usually get what you pay for, but I'm kind of on the broke side.  I'm looking @ the round ones, but the emgo-shaped ones aren't too bad either. I think the tail light might wait awhile.

oh... not quite so fast, finals are the week after next, then I get a weekish off and summer term starts... As I type this I'm working on a spreadsheet for one class and putting off finishing my works cited for an 8 page paper I had to write. I really hate this crap sometimes.   Oh well. It'll all be worth it when I get the legal go-ahead to shoot people "pew! pew!" with xrays.
