I'm getting a kick out of all these yankee responses about folks not being able to drive in the stuff.
Neither can yankees. We average better than 2 feet a year here and most of the folks complaining are northern
transplants, who ain't prepared.

For the information of all snow drivers, the best snow tires are Bridgestone Blizzacks. :)
And if your dealing with ice these work great too, without studs.

You're probably right. Even here, where we average about 4 feet per year (though almost 90 inches the past two winters :-\) everyone forgets when the first snow hits. Short memories. :(
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Ha! that's it. When the first one hits us I drive like I'm sitting on an egg. We have quite a bit of ice on our roads to and that
stuff on a road that changes elevation and has banked curves is treacherous for everyone.
One particular mountain side I have to go across hauling logs had a spring running across the road and made black ice
quite a bit. I was coming off the mountain up to the black ice and the State was finally trying to stop it (after who knows how many wrecks). well the way I run it is put my off side tire off the road in the gravel and go round the curve, wouldn't you know the State truck was hogging most of the road side so, I came real close to the their truck.  ;D
I've almost flipped a load once on black ice and I'm not taking a chance when I can see it. ;)

Had to come back and add one more tale.
When I was teenager in NC (far south eastern corner of NC) we had a 2 foot snow storm.
It snows about once every 4 years there and there is no snow removal equipment.
This was during the annual Canadian migration to Myrtle Beach.
We pulled Canadians out of the ditches all day. And heck, that was in the flat lands.  ;D

Waaaaheeyy. It started last night here. Went on until aboutl 11 o'clock then stopped. By that time it had laid about an inch of snow. That was enough for me; went to bed turned the 6 o'clock alarm off and snuggled in. Woke up at 9 and there it was; 4 inches!! and more's coming down. No-one's going nowhere this morning.
Wait, there's an idiot skidding and sliding past the line of cars parked on our street, he's totally out of control. Uh oh, he's come to a standstill in the middle of the street and is getting out of his car, with wife and kid. Has just abandoned his car in the middle of our street and is now just walking away, family in tow. Where was this idiot when the news and police were telling us not to drive unless it's an emergency???

Enjoy your day off rhos;D ;D ;D  I managed to get home last night but at 4.45am when I tried to get the car out, there was no chance, it was well and truley snowed in.
I started walking the 2 mile to work, I wasn't looking forwad to the hike as it was strength sapping deep stuff or very slipery compacted stuff, It took me 65 minuets.
I had a few chuckles on the way though, must have pased about six or seven snow people.
I say snow people as, three of them were dressed in just bra and panties ;D ;D ;D ;D

We've got about about 4 or 5 inches here. Roads to work are still driveable  :(

Hey Dave I guess you see sights similar to the ones Sam saw walking down the street too especially in the Summer.

For all you English guys that don't seem to know what snow is, all I gotta say is it's a drinking holiday. Get the bottles out if you don't have to work!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Never seen anything like it, there was a near riot outside Budgens yesterday morning when the milk truck rolled in. They couldn't stack the fecken stuff on the shelves fast enough. There were people buying 20 litres of milk. 20 litres of milk!!! wtf are you gonna do with that?? Chuck it all out in a week.
We're no better than a 3rd world country.
