The '59 415 ate all it's bearings at the drag-strip. I blame it on oil starvation due to the Direct Connection windage tray, which I believe didn't allow the oil to drain back into the sump fast enough. I swapped in the '65 413 HP mill, after trading my '61 baja bug for it. (The bug suddenly developed a very nasty noise, which turned out to be a crankshaft broken neatly in half. Gene was pissed, until I told him how rusted up the 413 was. Bent 4 push-rods due to stuck valves the first time I cranked it over.)
I ran that motor for a couple of years, then after a friend clued me in about a transmission shortening kit for the later 727 trans, rebuilt the motor and relocated it about 16" further back. The rear is an 8 3/4", currently fitted with a sure-grip and 3.91 gears. The drive-shaft is about 9 1/2" long.
