First senseless(but really cool) purchase of 2010
« on: February 03, 2010, 06:49:03 PM »
So, I have a perfectly good license plate now, but when I found this I couldn't resist.  In Ontario you can use a license plate from the year your classic vehicle was manufactured. The only catch is, the plate has to be in really good shape, and you have to pay the government $235.00 to evaluate it and transfer it to your name and vehicle.

The other catch is the validation tag for the year is almost double.

Whatever, a bit extravagant, and totally unnecessary, but it'll sure look sweet on the back of my bike. ;D

Thanks guys, my bike is mostly stock so the plate suits it pretty well I think.  1973 was the last year Ontario stamped the year on the plates, by the way.

Nice plate. What do they use now, a sticker?

Yeah, a sticker.  Which is kind of a grey area with these plates.  The sticker is supposed to be on the top right, but there's no room.  Apparently other guys have fabbed up a little bolt on tab for it.  Plate will be totally legal, they just don't tell you where to put the sticker instead.

Looks very cool. Are all the police in your Province as knowledgeable as you are?

I hate getting pulled over for anything ;D

Good point Seaweb, me too.  I guess I'll find out.  OPP are generally a little more chill than the RCs I think.  Of course it all depends on the cop.

Lenny55, the bike plates ran later than 73 without stickers. I had a 75 RD350 in 1979-1980 and remember picking up plates for it each year.(I still have my 1980 plate). Just an FYI for anyone in Ontario looking for old plates to put on the old bikes!!
