Topic: air dryers?

hey guys!  i have a 33 gal craftsman air compressor that i use pretty regularly and i'd like to install an air dryer in line to help keep the moisture out of my tools and also out of the paint gun when the fumes start flying on the build.  does anyone have any good ideas?  i'd like a simple desiccant in line filter that i can drain regularly that attaches to the wall.  i tried one from lowes awhile back, but it really restricted the air flow and made it very inconsistent.  i'd also like to keep this as cheap as possible, so any ideas are greatly appreciated!  thanks guys!!

Your best bet is to not use an air compressor if you don't want air in the line. lol. 

But seriously.... try to find a reputable automotive paint supplier and they will be able to give you a list of the best air accessories they recommend. Your local PPG store? You could also go to a few good body shops around and see if they'd be willing to let you look at their dryers.

You get what you pay for. Cambell Hausfeld makes some nice ones, they're what we use at my school

Don't forget to drain the tank itself. It collects water. If you can hang your lines uphill, you can get most/all of the water to roll back into the tank and just drain it there.

Some in line drainers have in line oilers too. Probably not too good for painting.

Lol just jackin your chain. Keep what MC said in mind.... some of the more luxurious ones have inline oilers. Make your paint all nasty and can ruin a good gun.

ya, i've made a much better drain utilizing a couple of 90's and an extended piece of brass pipe with a 90 degree ball valve so the drain comes out the side of the tank and allows a much tighter seal than the horrible excuse for drain valve that craftsman puts on there...

i like the uphill idea, but the main goal here is to keep the water out of the lines and equipment before it gets there, especially in the humid dallas air.  this is where the dryer would come into play.  ideally i'd like to have a line dryer AND an intake dryer, but i don't know if these are made.  anyone know about a possible intake air dryer??

i'd love to install a garage-pak system, but hell, their dryers are $345!!!

I think they have an inline dryer for the powdercoating guns that might be right up your alley.

i dont remember where they came from now, but i think they were around 100 for the pair back in 2000 or 2001
