Man, do I feel stupid...
« on: February 14, 2010, 01:57:42 PM »
In fact so stupid I have to tell you...I spent over an hour looking for the front bracket that holds the front brake line in place on the K4. Having been programmed that on my K0 & K1 it is a seperate piece. I looked high and low only to realize it is welded to the front fender on the K4. I did not see it as the fender is still wrapped from the chromer. Dah, dah, double dahhhhh  ;)

Just recently I was looking for my flashlight.  I bought a fairly expensive one that's fairly small, and I always carry it in the wrench pocket of my carpenter pants (and I always wear carpenter pants).

Anyway, I looked all over for it, and was starting to get depressed because it's the single most useful thing I carry (even more than my knife).

You might think I'd check the wrench pocket of the last pair of pants I wore, wouldn't you?

Nooooo... not me.   ::)

And I'm still looking 3 years after that Whitworth 1/4 inch wrench disappeared.  I'm positive that it is in the house somewhere.  I do want a smaller house.

At least you didn't weld without a mask like I did. Spent the better part of valentines day stumbling around blind when I could have replaced all of my wheel bearings and hubs painted!  :-[

Yeah mate, I watch those Bike shows on cable where they build 100,000 dollar bikes but apparently they can't afford a helmet and I think, "how dumb are you arseholes, anyway?".

Having said that, I did it once myself, used my cousin's welder and his mask was so pitted I couldn't see sh1t, so I screwed up my eyes to do one 1 inch bead (welding the hinge back onto my dads trailer) and woke up in the middle of the night with burned retina's.

My mom was a trained nurse so she put used tea bags on my eyes until I could see again, but it taught me how dangerous that is, and when I see these turkeys doing it on every show, I can't help but wonder what their eyes will be like in a few years? Not just stupid, criminally insane! :P
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I think there are little gremlins in my garage that move my tools as soon as I put them down. They also move my car in parking lots. Good thing the Goldwing comes with a fob that has a button to honk the horn and flash the lights too.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I did get the dent out of the the fender and my guy did his usual fantastic job on the chrome. Now it will match the fork ears, studs and blinkers... ;D

Well, it sounds like you're doing a great job of restoring it and also sounds like you're going for showroom stock. It doesn't hurt to go even a little farther and polish all the aluminum. I still need to find a perfect condition 74 grab bar and now have to replace my left fork boot (due to a separation rip at one of the seams) and rechrome the rear fender. Last summer, while riding it, I scratched the tranny case with my boot, so I'll have to rebuff that out. :( You need to  post some more pics of your build progress. You know how this forum likes pictures. ;D ;D ;D

Yah, I should have started a build thread in November but did not think about it. And yes, I did polish the covers and forks. Below is a before and after pic of the covers.
