Aftermarket headlights
« on: February 23, 2010, 07:01:39 pm »
I have a dilemma.  I'm trying to find an aftermarket replacement headlight kit for my project, but I am not having much luck locating one.

I like this kit:  http://www.aztec8.com/catalog/i9.html

Pros:
It comes in black
I like the style of ears
I also like the add-on LED turn signals that are available.

Cons:
The smallest diameter ears are for 37mm tubes.  If I am correct, the CB650C has 35mm, right?
The company in the link does not seem to be much for returning emails.

Does anyone know of a light of headlights that is similar to this?

 $198.00!  That's a ridiculous price  :o
I got a pair of these and used just one, four inch diameter lens, 4.5" outside rim

I guess it's all in how you look at it...free shipping vs whatever your link might charge for international, plus mounting hardware, larger light, 30% adjustment for Euro, etc.  The other part is availability - my link was the only one I'd found so far.  I guess the best would be something in the price range of yours, but US based and in black (going with minimal chrome on this build.)

EDIT:  I noticed that their US site has those dualies listed at $90 with no hardware.

Thanks for taking a minute to respond.  Never thought the headlight would be the hard part to find.   ;)

Masterchief:  You seen those ears anywhere in black?

this is the "flat" front profile. There is also a convex one available. It works very well and is a great price too!

What's the difference in just using the stock ears and painting them black or, using aftermarket ears painting em black and using the stock head light looks close to he same to me?  ???

That kit is rather expensive and considering the Emgo brackets are cheap and a bucket can be had from a wrecker for $20, it doesn't look worth the price by a long shot.
Anyway, you might be interested in this link to a fiberglass bucket.

I'm not sure what is so special bought the first kit, but 37mm can be shiimmed to fit your 35mm.

Got for it

For my build, I don't like the look of the stock ears.  I asked about black aftermarket ones because, well, if they're out there, why buy chrome and repaint them? :)  The stock bucket I have is out because the PO had a bit of an "oopsie."  If I need to replace it anyway, I figured I'd see what was available.

I'm not sure what is so special bought the first kit

Like I said above, it wasn't that there was anything overly "special" about it aside from the fact that I liked the looks and it was the only complete replacement kit with everything included that I could find so far (hence why I started this thread, hoping to find other options.)

I was able to answer my own question from last night, as I found some Emego's on Ebay in black...and that bucket looks like it might be just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

You are missing out. Why limit yourself? Or maybe you have too much nightime wildlife  ;). Half my riding has been done at night...those long rides overnight to see my g/f back when I was in the Uk....riding in the dark in the US has its dangers though...deer. Anyway sometimes you have to ride at night and when you do better to have that headlight blazing!
