« on: February 26, 2010, 08:42:20 AM »
I enquired at DSS and Bike Bandit about the following parts but discontinued...any ideas?

Ball Bearing (rear wheel) 6305 # 96120-63050

Sprocket, rubber orifice - #23314-319-300  (this is the little rubber that prevents oil leakage...mine are toast :-(

thanks for any leads!
cheers
Andy

Andy,

The bearing should not be a prob. the 6305 is a 'standard' type bearing. A good hardware store should be able to supply.

Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Yeah bearings are everywhere, better than stock (double sealed rather than single sealed) http://www.cbrbearing.com/   Z1enterprises, etc.

Can't think what the rubber orifices are.

Hey Andy...I was just going to say the same thing? Not sure what rubber orfice you are talking about? I just did my entire K4 rear assembly and was able to get everything I needed. If you are talking the rubber ring that goes around the inside of the hub that is still available. If you are talking about the oil seal that goes under the bearing retainer ring that is available from Honda too. At least I was able to buy both of mine there this year. But my numbers do not line up with the seal number you posted. As far as the oil seal under the bearing retainer ring, guys are saying you do not need it if you get sealed bearings which is what I imagine you will get.

Two places where I've gotten impossible to find parts are Western Hills Honda and Performance Cycle in Cambridge, Ontario, 519-658-5819.  Both of them seem to have a lot of vintage stuff.  Good luck.

Thanks guys for the fast replys and Ill look into the links you have all provided.

The rubber orifice is #2 on the diagram...shown here:

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1974-honda-motorcycle-cb750k4/o/m9235

or look at FINAL DRIVEN SHAFT - DRIVE SPROCKET - its labeled as #2.

EDIT** I see that http://www.hondarestoration.com/nosResults.asp?models=CB750-K0%2CCB750+K0-750+Four-1970

has it for $10.99 - its just a bit of rubber!! Oh well Ill see if he has it in stock - this is Steve a friend of mine in NH who has a large collection of OEM parts - I forgot he had this resource. Thanks for the reminder!

thanks again
Andy

Well its rubber with a metal plate bonded to it IIRC. It squishes as you turn the adjuster in to slowly block off the oiling hole. You said "mine are toaat" which led me to believe its plural, sb "mine is toast" just the one.

I pitch those things and put a plug (broken off spark plug) in the oiler to shut it off altogether. I don't think I;m alone in that.

Both mine are toast - I need to replace them on my K2 and K4. And you are correct they have a metal plate so I guess thats where the expense comes in - fair enough and point taken  ;).

Im curious to know about this broken spark plug trick - do you have a photo of this setup or even the broken spark plug? Like most here my "oiler" is always turned off so whatever means can do this Ill give it a try.

thank you!
Andy

I disable my oiler too.  I plug the little hole in the shaft with a piece of o-ring and then replace the bolt with the hole through it with a solid one.  I find an old o-ring that will be a tight fit and cut it and "sharpen" one so I can get it fed through the hole and grab it with a pliers to pull it tight and then trim both ends.  It's a lot cleaner but you have to lube the chain yourself.  I don't put on that many miles any more so for me it's not an issue.

The goal is to run a threaded bolt in past the hole. (THe Oring trick works too, BTW care of markb and link below) Hard to find a bolt that long with proper thread. Happens the "E" length sparkplug, the one we use, is the proper length. Breaking off the ceramic part is rather Neanderthal. A band saw or hack saw might be more elegant. The lock tab washer won't reach the hex. Use some lock tite.

But the Oring trick sounds a little more secure as you can use the locktab washer on the bolt.  I think the sprocket will pin the tails of the rubber Oring (now a straight rubber strip).
