Barn find. What is it? Pictures.
« on: March 21, 2010, 03:47:25 pm »
Just took a few pictures in low light; sorry about the quality.
There are two bikes here. One is a 1971 CB350 K3 twin.
Built 12/70. 3895 miles on it. The tank is clean and rust free.

The second bike is my question.
Can't find anything on it except 300 on the tank.
I couldn't find any VIN numbers anywhere but the light was low and space tight.
Look at the pictures. It has square shocks!

Any one have a clue? I did a google search and came up empty.
Parts pit stop does not list any parts for a 300. Maybe a model number and not cc's?
Thanks for any and all input.
I want to die like my grandfather did...in his sleep and not screaming like the passengers in his car!

That's like a mid 60's cl  72, cl 77 or a dream 305. I think I have a clymer manual for it.

Close, but FYI: The CL was the scrambler with hi pipes. This is your seconfd choice, a Dream, 350 or 305 I can't tell. The Dream had the rectangulated fenders, shocks, covered chaincase, that's about the best features in that picture. They have heavily valanced front fenders, leading link front suspension, rectangular headlights...

Personally I prefer the 250/305 Hawk/SuperHawk model. But, the Dream is very popular in collecting circles and for general ownership, so I'm the odd man out. They must be a satisfying bike to ride and own.

As Brewsky says, with a 300 tank badge it is a 305cc. Model CA77.

That's one of them thar blurry bikes.  See a lot of those after a visit to the pub.

The blue one's a Honda dream, could be 250 or 305.  Not much detail to go on.

Thanks! I just looked at parts pit stop for the CA 72 and CA 77 and it does look like one or the other.
I am going back to dig the bikes out of the basement on Wednesday so I will get a better look at them and some more pictures. These look like they're going to be my next two bikes...free! What a find. Both off an estate where the father passed away, the mother is in a nursing home and the two kids, in their 40's, both live in Colorado. The house is full of antiques and there will be an estate sale there. They don't want the bikes there.
The 1971 CB 350 is a match to the first bike I owned and learned to ride on.
The tank is clean but the carbs, choke and throttle linkage are all frozen.
I don't know if it turns over. The smaller bike does turn over; but the throttle is also frozen

What a score, Original mufflers and tank badges are worth a small fortune. Looks very clean and blue ones are fairly rare.

I have a red 67 305. Wonderful old bikes. Get it, fix it up, and hang on to it.

Just from looking at the picture, I think its a CA77 from '65 or '66. The low handlebars don't fit the usual profile for '64 and newer models. The narrow whitewall tires started in '65 but maybe replacements. The tank and the rear shock mounts are definately '64 and newer. The motor ID is on the left behind the cylinders. The frame ID is difficult to read. It is below the left sidecover and sometimes partially covered by the swingarm.

Very nice find!  A couple of years ago I paid $400 for a running CA77 at a swapmeet. I removed the tank badges and sold the bike for $200 because I did not have room to haul it home.

In July of 2006 a group of six riders rode 305s around Lake Superior hahnda from this board rode a CA77 and my sister-in-law also rode a CA77.  As far as I know, Mary Ruth is the long-distance Queen of Dream riders - 1200+ consecutive miles without a breakdown. She wrote the trip story published in the Minnisota Motorcycle Monthly News.
