Killer Greek Prawn Recipe
« on: March 22, 2010, 07:25:55 PM »
Downloaded it and made it tonight.
I'm a hit and miss cooker, but this ranks a 10 against any Greek Restaurant.

Quick and delicious, this recipe for shrimp with fresh garlic meze or appetizer goes well with rice for a larger meal. The recipe calls for large unshelled shrimp by weight with the heads on. If you buy shrimp with the heads removed, the number of shrimp per pound will increase, so remember to increase other ingredients in the recipe accordingly.
Cook Time: 30 minutes Ingredients:
1/2 cup of olive oil
6 fresh garlic cloves , finely chopped
1 pound of large unshelled shrimp with heads on (about 20 shrimp)
1/4 cup of brandy
1/4 cup of fresh orange juice
1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
1-2 rounded tablespoons of finely chopped fresh parsley
1/4 to 1/2 cup of water
1- teaspoon paprika
1- teaspoon chilly powder
Preparation:
Shrimp with Fresh Garlic

In a skillet, bring oil to medium-high heat. Sauté the garlic chilly powder, and paprika until garlic is  soft and add shrimp. Continue to sauté for 2 minutes, then douse (deglaze) with brandy. Add orange juice and cook for a few minutes until most of the liquid cooks off. Remove shrimp and place on hot serving plates.
Add salt, pepper, parsley, and water to pan juices. Bring to a boil and cook for about 8 minutes, until there's just a small amount of sauce in the pan. Pour the sauce over the shrimp and serve.

You will love this I guarantee it !! ;D ;D ;D ;D

A prawn is big and shrimp is tiny ;)

"Culinarily, many people distinguish between shrimp and prawns on the basis of size. “Prawns” are considered to be larger, while shrimp are smaller. In terms of biology, however, things get a bit more complex, since shrimp and prawns are in different suborders, indicating key biological differences between the two. Prawns are in the suborder Dendobranchiata, while shrimp are classified as Pleocyemata."  ;)

there was something about the skeletal system of the two which I can't seem to remember and I'm sure is
answered by the suborder classification. Anyway, shrimp are good.  ;D

never seen one that large however, I hear that there are some commercial prawn farms now in NC and I'll be checking them out.
A shrimp that big has got to be good.  ;D

Looks kinda like a crawdad but not red and without the pinchers.

I wonder what a prawn etouffee would taste like.

now you have me thinking, we have some NC land that use to be a family tobacco farm.
The fresh water prawn seems doing well. It's no problem to dig fresh water ponds down there.

Yeah, we have plenty of prawn farms here as well only thing is you need to be near the sea as all the local prawn farms here are salt water, saw some in New Zealand while there at christmas as well..
