I've worked on my friebd's '81 XV750 and had the same problem.

Two things:
Check all of the connections at the brain box.
There's a sidestand switch that runs a relay to "lock out" the starter. Most people bypass the switch.

EDIT: Nevermind; I didn't realize I was 2 pages behind. :o

It runs!
Today I finished the front brake rebuild.  It may be time to see if it will go down the road :-\

Dewd, you're gonna roll down yer hill side and end up in the friggen ocean one day  ;D

ps plenty of bikes to rent but I don't think it comes cheap. Gotta put a rear tire on Tuesday. $220 at the local shop and they beat the others by $40-$50. That'll last 10,000 miles or 2 rides whichever comes first. Just put 4 on my car for $350 that will last 50,000. Who says it's cheaper to ride a bike! Lets translate that into 200,000 miles for $350 vs 10,000 for $220. Just doesn't seem fair but much more fun!

Hell, you could pick up a disposable bike for that or just ride that disposable bike home to that new fangled fancy motorbike house you built.

Unlimited mileage though and we intend on doing 6,000 this time. That's half a $220 tire  ;D

That's why I walk away and come back later.

One of the best tools in the tool box!

Not everyone has it and some that do never use it.

Put the last of the air filter stuff on and then lowered the bike down off the lift today.

Decided I had done everything perfectly or at least as perfectly as my skills will allow.

Put on my helmet, started it and headed up the driveway. Very Torquey motor in the loose gravel, but once on the street this thing really pulled.
Not my style, but I rode around the Island and had a hoot!

Way to go seaweb!  I bet the owner was really jazzed?  I'm not really into cruisers either, but a bike is a bike, that one looked nice, and they grow on you even more after you bring 'em back!
