True that.  Those Roland Sands cnc'ed wheels are about $3k.  And a namebrand sportbike Ti exhaust is about $1500, if not more.

If that was a 18" rear for disc brake 750F then they are REALLY hard to find which would account for inflated price. I'm thinking of just painting my Comstar black to match the Lester front ;)
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

It's an 18" rear with 550 hub.  They are basically "unobtanium".  They were part of a 70's motorcycle parts stash that were found and put on eBay.  You can find the 16" 750 drum rear wheels easily, but the 18" 550 wheel is a different animal altogether.

It's the equivalent of finding a Hyashi wheel for sale.

"not sure who sold them but 800 bucks for a friggin wheel? cmon now."
Wildcat get over it.  You win some / you lose some.

Traveler, are you sure the 550 hub is different than the 750?  Lester were all about making wheels that fit multiple applications.  I don't know anything about the 500/550 though so I'm sure you did your homework.  Just curious what is the part number on the rear wheel, I may be able to give you some info on it?

Here is an example of Lester fitment and the universal nature of their wheels

Good score.  It costs what it costs.  The enjoyment you get out of it is priceless and that's why we do this stuff anyway.

Well.....sometimes you have to pay to play.  Once reason why the price went so high for the rear wheel is becaseu I wan't the only one that wanted it.  It IS possible the owner was "shill bidding" to drive the price up....but I had the right to stop bidding at any time.  16" rear lesters are avaialble...18" 550 rear lester are not.  Nobody wants to sell the rare stuff....and when you do find one.....you either pay or live without it.

I have gotten grief over this wheel purchase, and I have caught grief over the tank and seat purchase.  Fact is.....somethings are DESIREABLE, and RARE.  As such, if you want them, chances are someone else wants them too.....and you have to pay to have them.  I remember a '69 chevelle 396 I almost bought 20 years ago for 3500 bucks.  23 years ago I sold my factory 409 Impala for 4K.....same car, same condition TODAY 30K!  Everybody wants the desireable stuff.....look at '69 Camaros.....

From the pics, I was able to dedcuct that the brake plate on the wheel is the exact one on my bike.  I looked at some 16" wheels and the brake plate was MUCH bigger!  As far as the front wheel, 750's have a bigger rotor, but mounting points are the same.  Width should be the same as well.  If not, you can trim the spacers down a bit and you're golden.

I just wish guys could let the COST thing go and just enjoy the hobby. Whether it is just a disagreement as to what something is "worth" in their eyes, or some form of sour grapes....I don't know.  I like this forum alot, and always ensure to document my work and add alot of pics...to make the forum that much better, add reading enjoyment to all....and most importantly help the next guy out.  If the crap shoveled at me gets too thick then "I will pick up my toys and go play elsewhere".  I'd rather everyone just act like men, and let ME worry about the cost.

Rant off.  ;D

Hey man, if you derive enjoyment from it and can afford it, more power to ya.

The whiners are just whining because they got outbid.

I would probably be crying too if I got sniped on it.  :)

Enjoy them.

Joe, I for one will never give anyone any grief for paying the price for rare stuff.. I assume you must have gotten the wheel.

Front wheels fit many models rears do not 550 has different drum size width and mounts than 750.

Listen up, there is an EXTREMELY high demand for period 18 inch wheels.. back in the day..(I was there) many people preferred the 16 inch.

Right now I have an 18 in Morris rear, that I have 2 people after, and a wide Kawi rear Astralite, that I get calls about.. They are simply not easy to find.. but 16s are.

The one fellow want to take a Morris, cut off the rim sides and have Kosman weld on a wider rim, and that is 450 bux, plus shipping 2 ways plus duty.

The problem with Honda Fours is there is lots of cheap parts, some people lose touch with what stuff really costs.. you would cringe at the cost of wore out tired crap for some early bikes..

Yes, I bought both the front wheel and the rear wheel.

You just simply cannot find 18" Lester wheels with the 550 hub....when I found it....I HAD to have it......

If I wasn't keeping the bike, then I wouldn't have done it....but this is a keeper.

Well done Joe.  It's easier to be jealous than it is to compliment, but those who know exactly what you bought have true hobbies and require no explanation.

Your bike's gonna look sick with those wheels!

Unfortunately, you sold them before the value really went up.

The front wheel isn't what is rare.....the REAR 18 INCHER with 550 hub is what is rare.
