1977 CB550 K carburetor problems
« on: April 18, 2010, 12:58:23 PM »
Hey,

I have done a search, and have tried to figure it out, but am getting nowhere!

My bike is a '77 550K and has it's stock "PD"carburetors.  When I bought the bike and brought it home in December, it ran fine.

Now 4 months later, after the cafe conversion I performed, it dosen't want to play nice.

It will only start and run if the choke is open all the way and the throttle is wide open.  And then it runs for about 10 seconds and dies.  it'll do this about 2 times before it is flooded.  I took the air cleaner off to see if it was being strangled...no change.

When it does run, you can tell it is firing on all cylinders, and I pulled the plugs, everything seems perfect.

Do the carbs just need to come off and be throughly cleaned, or what gives?

Any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated.

~Joe

With your filter setup it's now easy to remove the carbs, which is what you need to do next!  ;)

You know you want to!

that air box literally has to be pryed on and off......maybe since the carbs are coming off....I should get some velocity stacks, since this is just a fair weather toy....have to think that over.

Anyone else have any idea on these carbs?
