South Park Creators warned of potenial violence
« on: April 22, 2010, 07:13:53 AM »
So, it was OK to show a depiction of Muhammed in the "Super Best Friends" episode but when they parody him I guess it is going over the line?

What a crock of #$%*. Religion..at..it's worst.  >:(

I wonder when the Catholics are gonna start burning heretics at the stake again? They don't wanna be out done by any mamby-pamby muslims, right?

Considering that that first muslims in the US came in the 1700s, that is a pretty stupid statement.

Alright, I see where this thread will head quickly, no Muslim bashing please.

Normal Muslims do not hold the same beliefs as the extremist wackos.

Religion bashing in general is allowed.  :)

I spent three weeks in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon a couple of summers ago. Felt safer there than I felt in Mazatlan- the most gracious and welcoming people I have ever met. We like to think that Muslims and middle-easterners hate us but honestly, we give ourselves too much credit. We are only one of their many problems. And while we are an issue for them, they also look to us as having the most potential to make a difference in their lives. If all they saw in their news was the racial and gang violence in our country- they would think we are a bunch of "terrorists" as well.

On a lighter note- Mediterranean chicks are hot- regardless of their religion or place of birth.

I find it amusing that Trey Parker & Matt Stone will unabashedly mock ANYBODY right up until they receive a half-assed threat from a "muslim activist" group and all of a sudden they can't backpedal fast enough.

I'm surprised that no one remembers the Virgin Mary Episode.  I think it only aired once and will never be seen again.  I can't believe the show is still on after that, they stepped way over the line on that one.  Anyway I know that being edgy keeps people coming back, but when is it too much?

I don't think that is the case here, Comedy Central owned by Viacom owned by some other corporation was the one that apparantley pulled those censor triggers.

Maybe they read the wikipedia article on Salman Rushdie?

"On 14 February 1989, a fatwā requiring Rushdie's execution was proclaimed on Radio Tehran by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the spiritual leader of Iran at the time, calling the book "blasphemous against Islam" (chapter IV of the book depicts the character of an Imam in exile who returns to incite revolt from the people of his country with no regard for their safety). A bounty was offered for Rushdie's death, and he was thus forced to live under police protection for years afterward. On 7 March 1989, the United Kingdom and Iran broke diplomatic relations over the Rushdie controversy.
The publication of the book and the fatwā sparked violence around the world, with bookstores firebombed. Muslim communities in several nations in the West held public rallies in which copies of the book were burned. Several people associated with translating or publishing the book were attacked, seriously injured, and even killed.[23] Many more people died in riots in Third World countries.

On 24 September 1998, as a precondition to the restoration of diplomatic relations with Britain, the Iranian government, then headed by Mohammad Khatami, gave a public commitment that it would "neither support nor hinder assassination operations on Rushdie."[24][25]

Hardliners in Iran have continued to reaffirm the death sentence.[26] In early 2005, Khomeini's fatwā was reaffirmed by Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a message to Muslim pilgrims making the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.[27] Additionally, the Revolutionary Guards have declared that the death sentence on him is still valid.[28] Iran has rejected requests to withdraw the fatwā on the basis that only the person who issued it may withdraw it,[27] and the person who issued it – Ayatollah Khomeini – has been dead since 1989.

Rushdie has reported that he still receives a "sort of Valentine's card" from Iran each year on 14 February letting him know the country has not forgotten the vow to kill him."

And some stuff I didn't know

"Failed assassination attempt and Hezbollah's comments
On 3 August 1989, while Mustafa Mahmoud Mazeh was priming a book bomb loaded with RDX explosives in a hotel in Paddington, Central London, the bomb exploded prematurely, taking out two floors of the hotel and killing Mazeh. A previously unknown Lebanese group, the Organization of the Mujahidin of Islam, said he died preparing an attack "on the apostate Rushdie". There is a shrine in Tehran's Behesht-e Zahra cemetery for Mustafa Mahmoud Mazeh that says he was "Martyred in London, 3 August 1989. The first martyr to die on a mission to kill Salman Rushdie." Mazeh's mother was invited to relocate to Iran, and the Islamic World Movement of Martyrs' Commemoration built his shrine in the cemetery that holds thousands of Iranian soldiers slain in the Iran–Iraq War.[24]

During the 2006 Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah declared that "If there had been a Muslim to carry out Imam Khomeini's fatwā against the renegade Salman Rushdie, this rabble who insult our Prophet Mohammed in Denmark, Norway and France would not have dared to do so. I am sure there are millions of Muslims who are ready to give their lives to defend our prophet's honour and we have to be ready to do anything for that."[33] James Phillips of the Heritage Foundation testified before the United States Congress that a "March 1989" (sic) explosion in Britain was a Hezbollah attempt to assassinate Rushdie which failed when a bomb exploded prematurely, killing a Hezbollah activist in London.[34]"

It's too much for anybody to get so worked up that they start thinking that violence is an appropriate reaction.  There are plenty of things on TV that are offensive to me.  So I just don't watch them.

The real chicken #$%*s is the radical Muslim group. Words games? Really?

"Trey Parker and Mat Stone, We may or may not probably be telling our people to possibly kill and maim or perhapse just hold protests against you. We cannot say that we don't know for sure but maybe could possibly have an inclination of what we would like to see happen to you. Your pals, Radical Muslim Cowards. P.S. Here is a picture of a guy murdered in the street for your viewing pleasure."

Give me a break.  ::)

Also Joe, they put the word "RADICAL" in front of Muslim not because they are cool dudes, but because they are trying to make sure that all the people out there know they are not representing all Muslims.

I say come and get me.... see what happens.

And why shouldn't they respond with violence? Isn't it all they want to hear? Forget tolerance... the time is over for tolerance. Kill all the infidels.

No one says live and let live anymore.... Not since the crusades anyway. And even then it was only the Christians.

Live and let live.... as long as you are christian. And even then..... maybe not.

For thousands of year we have been killing each other for money... land... women... food... why should religion be any different? Especially now?
