Back on track! Last march I found a small bike shop in Rincon GA. Had a clean bobbed xs 650 out front. The owner of the shop said he built from a perfect stock bike. I was saddened even further when he was interested in cutting my 550 in my avatar and its 16mo old pipes to pieces!! Any way the owner of the parts off the 650 has had them for sale here for months!
 Too bad I think.

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Basically there will always be a battle between those that prefer stock to modified. Also the condition of the machine before it was worked on. Be it restored from a pile of crap or chopped up from a perfectly good machine. I spent most of my life in the car sceen, my father had a '39 Ford sedan & my mother had a '63 Chevy wagon. Both got modified, the Ford got lowered & the power train updated(face it, a flat head isn't suited for highway use). The Chevy had the straight 6 & power glide swapped for a small block & th350, again for drivability. My mother used this as her everyday car. I've heard guys cry about '57 Chevys being modified or someone actually driving a Hemi 'Cuda(god fobid). I admit that I prefer modified vehicles, 2 or 4 wheeled, to stock/restored. I can, however, appreciate the history & work involved in both. When done nicely, not hacked together. That seems to be the biggest hang-up, the bike being hacked. This term has two meanings. Hacked & put together in such a way that it looks like a 2 yr old did it. Or a bike that was modified & you getting so upset that someone didn't restore it to factory fresh. Everyone has their own taste, good or bad, and the right to do as they please. That doesn't mean I want to be on the road next to some of the bikes you see out there. Some just aren't safe. Age has nothing to do with modifications, different styles come from all ages. Just build what you like, appreciate when someone does good work, keep your screems in your head, and get out there and RIDE! That's what we are all in it for, TO RIDE.

Is everyone just posting boobies to distract from the important issue here? Is it WRONG or RIGHT to cut up a classic?!

Yeah, I am very proud to be the BOTM winner for June, with my modified CB750K2. (wider alloy rims and tires, fatter forks, bigger brakes, 836cc F2 engine, 32mm CV carbs, etc etc)

Now I have to say that I like all sorts of bikes, whether they be race reps, cafe racers, choppers, or stockers. But, whatever they are, I love well engineered and well finished bikes, but I frickin' hate half arsed, ugly, (not to mention downright dangerous) attempts at "customising", so that's where I draw the line, it doesn't matter to me what you do, just do it well, or expect a flaming!

Oh, and I really like boobs........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

OK , I think I got it all figured out.. :)

 # 334 that girl is like  the 736cc  bike, alway trying to squeeze more out of it, & make it look bigger.

#361 that girl is the 970cc  kit bike, just about right for all around use and pleasure.. In the long run, may show  the effects of wear & tear and performance may droop a bit.. but overall ..many smiles per mile..

 # 346 that girl is like the Rocket 3.. a good deal bigger than many folks need, but there is always a few in the crowd, that have to have the biggest they can get their hands on...

...are you looking for a definitive 'right' or 'wrong' in black and white terms?  If so, cutting up a classic may not be for you.  If everything comes in various shades of grey, modification may be more your speed.
...unless you're trolling, which I've done myself from time to time.  Wth? have fun. :D :D :D
