Score! 1982 kz 1100
« on: April 29, 2010, 09:28:20 AM »
I was the first person to make contact with the guy. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up this evening.
I'm already adding to the collection.

Do you guys know anything about the history of these bikes that I should be made aware of?

Wow!  What a score!

Nope, nothing you need to be aware of.  The history of the big Kawis is long and virtually weak-spot free.  Of course, any bike can be abuse/neglected/badly maintained, but the line itself is very robust.

Excellent score.

Thank you kirkn.
I'm kinda leary about getting a shaft driven bike, but hey I can't beat the price. I'm looking foward to picking it apart.
I'll be sure to post more pics once I pick it up.

I already made contact with the individual. I told him I would be there today to pick it up.

So I went over there on my lunch break to pick it up. The guy kinda gave me a weird vibe from the start. He never kept it in the garage. Everything that was rubber seemed to be dry rotted. The tank and seat were off the bike, and there was a bucket with some other parts in it.
I take it off the center stand to roll it out front to the truck, and it barely moves an inch. I'm not familiar with drive shafts.
Because of that, I backed out of the deal. Some of you might call me ungreatfull, but if i can't even roll it into my garage with ease, then I could imagine the arguments that me and the wife would have over the bike.
The picture was VERY misleading.
He seemed kinda pissed that I was wasting his time, which I understand, but came across more like a jerk.

i would have handled it exactly like you did. i've done some long drives only to find that the motorcycle (or car) wasnt anything close to what was described. one guy actually told me that he figured since i drove 400 miles to pick up a motorcycle that 'd take it regardless of how inaccurate the description was. i told him i'm not the dumbass here, YOU are got back into the van and drove right back home

Yeah, me too. I was pretty fired up about it. Being un familiar with the shaft drive, working full time, school full time, and 2.25 kids, and a loving wife, I know the bike would just sit in my garage.
It had potential, but I admit it was a bigger project than what I wanted to take on.
Lesson learned.
