I personally can't hardly stand that sound, since I was trained that it's something to avoid like the plague!

Well the T-Pain AutoTune phenomenon was started by Cher in much the same vein... It was originally a "mistake" for the autotune effect to show through (since it's supposed to be transparent; singers are
supposed to be able to sing without the aid of a machine!) Cher heard the mistake and thought it sounded neat, so she used it in her song "Believe". The one that goes, "Do you beeelieeeeve in life after love".
