INDIANAPOLIS area owners.....meet up?
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:36:39 PM »
I know there are several Indy area people here.  What are your thoughts on having some sort of a meet-up sometime in the near future??  Throw out some ideas.  How about some Saturday morning at a starbucks somewhere around the city?

It's rare that I see these old Honda's on the road and I'm really itching to see some up close and meet some riders.  I have a '74 CB550 and a friend/coworker of mine is just now getting his '71 CB500 road-ready.

So....Indy SOHC4'ers....speak up!  Name a date/time/place.  Let's meet up!

What say you?  :)

Now that looks like a neat event.  I'll have to go to that for sure!

Let's just see how this thread develops and maybe we can get something together when summer arrives pending the responses we get.  Looking forward to meeting you guys at some point.

Well it sounds like the Rocker's Reunion might be the first gathering as at least a few of us will be there.  Looks like CBJoe is going...I'm going...and my friend Jeff from here at work is going.  Another guy we know who lives up here near Westfield/Sheridan is planning to go as well (we refer to him as the "guru" because he builds race bikes and restores/owns old Bonneville's and other bikes).

Is this event pretty well attended?  It was listed on the Chicago Ton-Up website as well which led me to believe that some of them were riding down to attend.

I'll be there with a buddy at least for the show, maybe not the party. Would like to see everyone riding around Monument Circle that would be neat and they are closing it to traffic come August so might be the last time.

I'll be wearing a black VJMC baseball cap with red letters.

Wow I hadn't heard that.  Actually, I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened before now, though.

yeah its going to be a "test" initially to see how the public responds. They want to make the area into a pedestrian mall. If it sticks, I hope they open it to parades (like the Rockers) under special permit.

it was in the papers and some tv news did a story. The biggest complaints were from bikers, other people acctually thought it is a good idea. Depends on how much you like to sit in with the harley crowd on those balmy summer nights.

I don't get downtown much, but if the harley's have been hanging there, I'm sure the noise has turned the populace off. Only way to stop that is to restrict all traffic.

Do you have to be from Indiana to go to this show and be in the competition?  I live just over the border in Michigan, but I work in South Bend....

South bend? You're an honorary Hoosier!

I can't imagine any kind of restriction, the places are all public places. There is an email for "further info" on the eflyer, maybe give them a ping.

As far as being in the comp, again check the "more info" link.

I emailed the group to ensure that both venue's are open to the public... and then response indicated an enthusiastic "YES"    I wouldn't be worried no matter where you are from.

Might email them about the show if you want to enter.... but I doubt that anything would be turned away.

Looking forward to the event.... Joe

If you Indy guys are looking to do a meet up, you should check out the indyvinmoto vintage bike night every first Thursday at the Steer Inn (10th & Emerson on the eastside)... We've been have some really great turnouts the last few months... and you guys should definitely come out to the rockers reunion on the 22nd.

Seriously?  At Harold's Steer In??  I had no idea that was going on.  That literally is a few blocks from my house.  I have church choir practice on Thursday nights....so maybe that's why I didn't know.  Hell, I'll skip church once in a while for that.  ;D

For a lot of people, Vintage Bike Night IS church... but yeah, this is our second year at the steer inn and it has really been a success.

Here are a few photos from the last event a few weeks ago...

Thanks guys!  Unfortunately, my prize steer is still in pieces, and the 22nd is only a week away.  I might try to come down on my stocker, but only to see the other nice bikes and meet you folks in person.  Can't promise anything yet, but I'd like to come.

All makes, models, and years welcome.

Hey Joe.  Looked for you today, but didn't see you.  I have friends in town from TN and one of them rode down to Melody Inn at about 4:30 on my roommate's Rebel along with me.

I think we spotted you, though....earlier....maybe 2:45ish?  We had been to Irvington Marsh and as we were driving down Arlington, a Black Bonneville and a Cruiser type bike (Harley?) pulled behind us and followed us down Michigan Ave to where we turned onto my street.  We were in a Blue/Black MINI Cooper.  You had a black leather jacket with an orange horizontal stripe across the chest and a lady as your passenger.  Was it you?

At any rate, what a great event.  As we arrived down there, a girl ran up to us and talked to me about my bike.  She looked vaguely familiar.  She had ridden all the way down from Chicago by herself this morning.  When she told me that she was going to visit her parents in Greenfield, I knew how I remembered her.  When I was student teaching about 15 yrs ago in Greenfield, she was one of my high school students!  It was a bit embarrassing when she yelled "oh my god, you were my Band instructor!".  haha  I felt very old at that moment.

Can't wait to get to the next event and see more bikes/meet more ppl.

Here are some pics I took.

Hey Chris,

2 things.

1.  Yes.  That was my buddy and me riding towards The Melody Inn down Michigan.

2.  That's really freaking creepy about the girl from Chicago... was her name Wendy?  She ran into my wife and recogized her from years ago hanging out at a coffee house called the Abbey and another named the Lockerbie.  She mentioned that twice at this event she ran into someone from the past.... my wife.... and the other was a band instructor!

Small world huh...

Got to meet Ron (MCrider), his buddy Bruce, and member Owned.  Nice event and excellent turnout.

I'll be going to the Steer Inn Meet-up next Month, so we'll have to meet then.

Cheers, Joe
