Hey raef.  Selma is up near Muncie isn't it?  Not sure if I've even been to Selma, but I've been near it many times.  When I ride home to see my family in Hartford City and take state roads rather than the interstate, I usually see signs for Selma while going around Muncie.

I saw lots of bikes out while riding today, but nothing organized that I know of here.  MCRider mentioned to me on another thread....and I think I saw him mention again just the other day.....about putting together a group ride of some sort this fall.  I'm sure he'll post up if something gets put together.

BTW.....MCRider, I had read somewhere about SR44 between Franklin and Martinsville being a good ride.  Went down there and tried it today.  It was a great road.  Nothing intense, but nice and curvy/hilly in places.  Seems like it's pretty well known as I saw many bikes in the area.  Might be a good road to add to a route if something is organized (hint hint...)   ;D

Yes 44 tops the area of good roads in S Indiana, been there. My "build buddy" Bruce gave me a book of "Motorcycling Across indiana" with many routes laid out. I'm going to take one and build or subtract to it. Basically, its 192 miles, plus how far it takes you to get to martinsville, fo me about 50 miles. There are several places you can short cut it and head home early. I intend to do the whole route.

OK, so here's the deal. This is less an organized ride than a notice that I will be someplace, intend to go someplace else, and you're welcome to join in. If I don't put it in print it will never happen.

On Sept 25 I WILL be at SE corner of Hwy37 and #252. Silver FJR. I don't know how much room there is on the apron there so I may be at the first cut out East of 67 on 252. You get in the left turn lane on 67, and turn onto 252E you'll hit me. At 8:30AM. Kickstands up 8:45. East to Mrgantown, S on 135 to Bean  Blossom, left on unnumbered road into the sticks to Salt Lick Creek Road south to 46 and first rest stop/gas stop. This will bypass Nashville which may be crowded. Maybe 50 miles so far, good place to turn home if need be.

Pick up 135S again thru Story and FreeTown, West on 58 to Norman Springs, Heltonville (Catch 446N to home here if need be) to Bedford and second major stop. Grab 37N for home if need be. About 100 miles so far from start. Next is Top 10 Road #450S about 25miles long, be ready to grin. 450 terms at 50W, go 6 miles to 231N, relax to 58E, to 45N (there is a 10 miles stretch we can take or bypass, excellent roads, depend on weather, fatigue, etc); to43N to Spencer, jog W to 231, N to 67N to Martinsville. Pick your poison to get home. That last 100 mile stretch doesn't have much by way of big places to pull over, but we'll find something. I like to regroup about every 50 miles or so, Tylenol, water, etc.

I follow the PACE, you are responsible for the person behind you. Nothing fancy.

I was just down on 135 and the surrounding roads yesterday and had a blast. Those are some great roads down there, I'm planning on riding down next weekend too!

Sounds like a fantastic route, Ron.   :)  Looking forward to it.  I was debating on going with the MINI Cooper club to KY for the annual "Bourbon Run" that wknd, but not now.....this will be way more fun.  Besides, I'd rather ride and then drink bourbon when i get home.  : )

The article on PACE was a good read and the philosophy makes sense.  That style of riding is well suited for a little 550 pushing 40yrs old like mine anyway.

Thanks for inviting us to tag along!   ;D

Man that would be great. I love your bike!  I still haven't ridden much this year, so I consider myself rusty and will be taking it easy to enjoy the scenery. Heavy rain is about all that would deter me from the schedule at this point. That and the little fact I haven't run it by Linda yet.  ;)

Be careful down there on 135. Some of those corners are REALLY dirty. They have a lot of sand in them that is impossible to see until you're sliding through it. Last time i went it wasn't this bad. I heard a Harley rider wrecked down there on sunday due to sand in the corner.

It almost seemed like somebody dumped it there on purpose. It was only on the real tight corners, and i don't think it came out of the ditch, cause there wasn't any gravel in the corner.

Thanks for the headsup. Always got to be careful. When I rode it a lot, we'd go down to FreeTown, then turn around and come back, having experienced where the sand and stuff might be.

Been down that road probably 100 times, though not in the last 2 years. Looking forward to it. We'll be taking it easy.

Sounds like a great idea.  If you end up being able to go, maybe we can meet up on the East side.  I'm very close to 465 and East Washington Street.  Not sure if CBJoe will plan to go, but he lives really closeby also....so you could potentially pick up two of us there.

SNIP

Not a problem. Following PACE principles, its not a competition, the leader sets a pace most comfortable to the most people, allows the group to reset. And the participants never ride faster than their comfort level, knowing the group will reset later.

You kids and your computers! that's about it. You've got us turning right on Clay Lick when we'll actually continue straight thru Clay Lick intersection to the next road which is Salt Lick Creek Road. That heads us to IN46 where we'll stop at the station there. The Clay Lick route works though and is essentially parrallel. There are 3 ... Lick Creek Roads that run parallel to each other, separated by hilly ridges, all nice rides. (There's a forth up towards Morgantown. A ride down that just zig zag thru all 4 is a quick ride with about 50 miles of twistys without getting too far from Indy.)

Your route has it at 198 miles, at 5 hours+ without stops. If we add the side route I'd like to take before Spencer, might add another 10 miles to that.

With the round trip for everyone to get to Martinsville, it would be a long day. 8 to 10 hours. So come prepared. I'll stop for lunch if everyone wants, but by myself I'd just eat an apple and a power bar somewhere and push on.

And there are many places to short circuit and head home for those that don't want the whole journay.

Another great ride would be straight down thru the National Forest to Leavenworth IN. The Restaurant there has a Riverside cafe that attracts biker trash.  I drink O'Douls when I'm riding. Some other day.

That's not a cop out, or an easy out, I'm in industrial maintenance and don't work a lot of hours during the week unless there is trouble, but I do work a lot on the weekends, gotta take the hours when they're there.

SCHM: That's got it. Even just the 13 miles on Gatesville Rd/Salt Creek road is worth the trip down there. Least it was the last time I was there. Been up and down that pair many times.

Added another 2 miles to the total, but bypassing Nashville is the key. It's likely a zoo. Its a destination of its own that time of year. As we all know.

Thanks Ron! But I'm afraid it probably looks better in that video than in person. Not saying it's bad, just that up close you'll see the scratches, oxidation, & so on, of an original 34 year old bike. I'd like to make the trip with you guys, but like Mark I'll have to see what my schedule will be like. My wife works in Chicago and I'm usually traveling back & forth between Brazil & there. If it works out, I'll have her here that weekend to watch our dog, and then the only other thing I'll need is good weather.  Got a rain date planned?

You know what will cure that? My special sticky buns. One lick of my sticky buns and your appetite will come right back. ~ RIP Mr. Borgnine  01/24/1917 - 07/08/2012  :'(

No rain date planned. This was just planned a few days ago. Weather will be pretty iffy after leate Sept, and I'll be more spontaneous if I get to ride again after that at all.

I'll ride if its a "chance of rain" 60% or less. Only a day long downpour will likely stop me.

The 25th is coming, they moved the job I normally do on sat to Thursday night, last week. I I don't know if that will be a trend but I should be able to make unless something changes.

So where we meeting at and what time? It will def be the longest trip I have taken on this bike. Looking foward to it

Hey that's great! If you'll refer back to the first planning post...I'll be at the SE corner of 252 and 37 at 8:30. Leaving at 8:45. By myself but hopefully with a crew. Remember there will be plenty of places to stop and head back N if it gets too long. Some of these roads are pretty twisty and we won't make good time. In your case, opur first stop is on 46 E of Nashville. YOu could continue East about 15 miles, catch 65 and book it home. Or you could continue S on 135 with me (us) another 30 miles to Freetown, take 58 E to 65 and book home, etc. This is actually an excellent ride as the 58 E section is quite nice, about 18 miles to I-65, and Super Slab back to Selma. I'll stop at these opportunities and tell you.

Bedford would be the last breakaway point. There will come a point, probably at Shoals, where there is no turning back. GOing home or finishing the route will be the same.
I've got a thread going in Events I'll post an update.
