Does anyone know if you had a Honda frame built out of chrome moly tubing, the same specs as stock, would it be much stronger/better?

Mick

the primary benefit of chrome-moly is that it is stronger, and thus thinner wall tubing can be used and it will be lighter. the heat affected zone from welding will be brittle, and the entire piece will need to be "normalized" or uniformly heat-treated then re-hardened. bicycle frames are commonly brazed and TIGed without heat treatment, but i wouldn't trust a motorcycle frame not to develop fractures form the heat affected zones.

I'm also considering (somewhat) a frame build. Re-read a little of mec's egli build and he stated he used ST37 (apparently a german/euro term? is this what is known as A283 in the states?) for the frame. Also stated he used tig to weld. Any reason you can't mig with similar starting materials?

Anyone want to take a stab at this and enlighten a lesser experienced but amply motivated novice builder? My question stems from my limited knowledge of material thicknesses and what welding scheme is more advantageous...also, perhaps someone could point up a source for starting materials...?

Rake of the Frame are 62° and the Frame it is stamped to "0" which means "..the Frame is 100% straight an inside the possibel zero Center Line. And it is true : This EGLI is the best one which I ever drove : No strange Reaktion like "following Street groves "and so on........

Over here in AHRMA it is called Formula 500, that is why we had those old mikuni smoothbores on it, as they at the time did not allow CR Specials. After the race at Mid Ohio we got rules changes to allow CR Specials.

Nice bike, handled well and it did sound good!

Yeas of course the Frame is Nickel plated. And a very important Hind / Information : All this Frames are Handbuild (of Course!) by using Brass Solder (I hope that my English is OK...) that means : The Nickel could not been stripped down in Chemical Bath tubes !!! because the "Acid" will took also the Brass Solder and the Frame fall apart !!!! it happens to a Frame from my Friends and the Troubel after this Accident are tremendous....
The shown USA EGLI 500 is gone and here in Germany . A Friend of me bought it via EBAY and I assiste him to bring on the Road under German Law . The Wheels are not Org. EGLI because at this Time (early 70th) they are not finish /availabel because Mr. EGLI just start his carrier.

We also have now 23 degrees on our new build Cb500 racer.
See the design of the yokes and the real ones.
Our wheelbase is 1400 mm.

28mm offset, 23°, 18" wheel results in 103mm trail.
this is a very modern design. the same as my duc rr16 :) (except the wheel diameter, however)
