I was a dj for a long time. Played all over the middle of the US when raves were happening frequently. My dj name was Dialect. After about 8 years I got sick of running into people around town who would say 'hey- dialect! what's going on?" So, I started playing as Mike Dialect at a few of the clubs I had contracts with. After a few years of that I was being called mike d. And here we are.

Thank god I only got into the music side of Electronic music and never looked the part. It would have made the office job a lot harder to get :)

upperlake was a name first used on a wood/canvas canoe site. It was picked without much thought and refers to a special small un-named pond at the top of a chain of wilderness lakes where we built a small get-away cabin. A fine and peaceful place. It is a few miles bushwhack from the main cabin, which is 6 hours north of where I live, and we use it summer and winter to escape the hordes of inlaws that like to visit   :)  04 ? the site added that, must have been a few upperlakes before me.    Dave

My name is Nate and my wife's name is Leslie.  I shortened Nate to N8 (sound it out) and sice my wife and I ride together, I added her as Les (short for Leslie) and came up with n8andles.

Be careful with that kind of thinking Nate.  My dad is DR, my mom is Pat.  Her license plate is DRNPAT.  Her friends call her DarnPat.

Pardon me Nate,
can I call you mate?

My mate Nate should ride a '78...

That way his plate could read K84N8
or maybe something simple like N8SK8.

But wait,
you ride in what state?

Can you get a custom plate?
How would you rate your state plate, mate?

Don't leave it up to fate, set a date for that plate.

Well, gotta go or I'll be late.
I hope this rhyme, you didn't hate.

My username is the name I've been releasing electronic music under for the past 7 years.  The name really doesn't have a good story; I just thought it up one night, it looked good on paper, and I've stuck with it.  Also, "Q" is used as an alternate term for resonance in filters, so it's got a little basis in electronics.  It's my username nearly everywhere I am on the internet.

I'm really enjoying getting to know everyone so closely.

"It's my name, nuff said." ;D

Mine started out in my grandfather's garage in the early 80s.  Having started a family young by accepting my brother and I into his life, my dad (not the sperm donor, but a real father) had parked his old Honda Hawk semi-chop in his parents garage and left it there indefinitely.  Growing up, my brothers and I always went out into my grandparents garage to sit on the bike and pretend we were blazing down the freeway, taking twisties, etc.  The middle brother became very talented at imitating the sound of tires screeching around a tight turn.
Years later, after my learned interest and natural inclination toward tinkering/mechanics/ etc had taken hold I was told that my granddad was clearing out the garage.  Immediately I asked if he was getting rid of the bike.  Not only did I get the (completely rusted, locked up motor and all) hawk of my dad's earlier years, I also got a 74 CB350F that wasn't running.
That was senior year of college and I missed many classes, was late to work more than a few times, and slept very little over the 3 month period when I rebuilt the 350 from the frame up with my limited knowledge of motorcycle mechanics.  Sold that bike to my brother for $200 after graduation (and a gift to myself of a 2000 Honda ACE 750 deluxe) and he immediately dumped it.  I moved to Charlottesville VA that year, gave up the job offer as a financial consultant, and began a 3 year, low/no paying career as a road manager/ merchandiser for a struggling regional band.  Having no place of my own (lived on couches for a long time) I had to get rid of the ACE, store all my tools, parts, etc and wait until things got back on track to feel once again the thrill of riding on 2 wheels that you've breathed life back into.
A few years ago i finally had my own place again with a tiny little basement (entry way for about 6 feet was only 4' tall) and my brother (yes, the one that killed my first rebuild) calls to tell me a friend has abandoned a 78 CB 750 in his yard a few months back, he's moving and can't take it.  Do I want it?
It was running within a week and I knew what I was going to do.  As this site made it possible for me to get the girl running so quickly I signed up with a handle describing where I intended to end up.  That way I couldn't back out if it got a little hard (I had to learn how to weld, buy tools, etc.).

In short, I live in C'ville VA and built a chopper.
I guess I could have save some time and just said that, huh?

Dusthawk,

Wow, that takes me back to my first year working on Computers. I thought about what I wanted for an Email with Yahoo, and after putting a ton of words together, I came across Dusthawk. This was back when the internet was getting really big ang Pentium chips had just been invented. Remember the pentium 60? How about windows 3.1 or DOS 6.22, those were my tools back then. A lot of what we built were 486DX4 machines with a whopping 50 or 100 meg hard drive. Those were the days.

Back in 92 I got my first CB radio and joined on as Wheelhorse, for my 1958 Wheelhorse I had in the garage that I turned into a dual exhaust hot rod.

I've hung onto the name ever since.

In 1970 I took a 440 6 pack engine from a wrecked 1969 Dodge Super Bee and put it in a 1968 Road Runner. Dodge called their engines 6 packs, while Plymouth called theirs 6 barrel. Never mind a 440 6 barrel wasn't available in a road runner until mid 1969. I used to say my car had a 440 6 pack in it. When the upper crust would try to correct my terminology in that it should be a 6 barrel, I would explain its heritage and how it was indeed a 6 pack engine. Just all for the PO factor.
The Screaming Blue Messiahs(band in the 80's)had a line in a song, " I've got a 440 6 pack under my hood, need a medicine man to make me feel good. " Thanks. I will be humming that line all day for sure!
