I think if you search the threads here you will find a few ways to make your own.   If memory serves me anyway.   ::)

Or, try your local hardware store. I found a small metal, sliding T-ruler. It measured inches on one side and MM on the other, it was only about $2.50 as I recall.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Yes - Sears has them, so did my Ace Hardware store. Has both Inch & Metric scales.   ;)

Having just finished setting the floats on my '74 CB750, the T-ruler works great and is cheap.

Using the T-ruler: http://www.salocal.com/sohc/tech/carb/asmpg_mgs/flthgt.htm

The more expensive options are:

The Honda tool number is: 07401-0010000

The lip on the carbs is compensated for on the Honda carb tool is it not? The little "L" appears to be just the right height and would compensate for the fact you're supposed to measure from the carb gasket surface.  Or am I just wrong?

You measure from the lip itself , not the gasket.  ;)

I've heard gasket surface on numerous occasions. :shrugs:

It just seemed to make sense. They need to specify this stuff!

You know, I'm not afraid to admit when I don't understand something and I still don't understand the float height deal.  My manual recommends 14.5 mm float height.  Do I need to measure with the carbs sitting the way they would on the bike, upside down?  Something about "just touching float valve"  Am I measuring the free play or the maximum distance it will drop down.  Do I measure from the end of the float furthest from the arm and pin or near the arm and pin???

you are measureing where the float "floats" just before it engages the float valve

Lay the carbs upside down with the floats facing up - block it so its level. Very gently lower the floats onto the float needles so they just make contact , but do not compress them.

Honda says to tilt carbs about 70 degrees so contact is made but damper spring is not compressed

I think I've got it.  My confusion was in what portion of the float to adjust.  I'm assuming you are to bend the small arm that pushes on the float valve so that it is just touching (but not engaging) while the float is at the designated height.  The other "arm" that determines the ultimate play of the float is what confused me.  Does this need to be adjusted as well?  As I have them now, the floats will hang quite a bit lower than the spec number but the float makes contact with the float valve right at the designated height.  Should I raise them up so that the only play they have is the few millimeters between contact and engaging of valve?

Exactly where do you measure when setting the float level on a 1971 CB750K?is it from the base under the bowl gasket or from the top of the lip or inside the notch on the lip?

I put a red mark on an old credit card at the spec height of my float, and measure that way.
Fits nicely in the pocket.

I suppose the only question is whether you can still find a floppy disk here in the 21st century - cardboard? ;D

Heh heh heh. You're right of course Iggy. I have heaps of em, I'm not game to dispose of 'em, I forget what's on 'em & my floppy drive died ages ago.
