Master Cylinder Reservoir Size...?
« on: October 07, 2010, 09:24:18 PM »
I am beginning to thing the larger size on late 750s and GL's is only a failsafe measure.. What do you guys think..?

Been thinking about early prototype sandcast pics, and the tiny MC.. If I built a fixture, they could be cut down and made smaller.. cleaner looking  & lighter..

 Any thoughts on this...

By late do you mean DOHC? The reservoir on my K1 MC looks to be the same as my K7, but the K7 cap is lighter than the K1 cap.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I have a tall 78? style here, all metal, tall version of what looks like an early one, except it has a built in  brake switch.

By cutting down , I meant the  regular one to look more like the prototype style...

bore size is what applies the hydraulic pressure for the brakes....the extra fluid capacity was for being able to supply the required fluid....and to keep it cool.  the bigger the bike...the more force required and the more heat build up.  If you can cut a tall one down.................it would still work.

Anyone on here ever boil a front brake ??

I actually know a guy that did boil out a rear on a 76 Superglide  :o.. he was riding with a buddy of mine that was on a cb 750.., that usually left me in the dust cornering..

The Superglide kept up, till the disc got puople and the fluid started boiling or smoking.. :o

I do recall another guy getting his 74 750 rotor smoking hot in a panic stop..

The worst case of brake over-heating I had was due to the dreaded "stuck caliper piston" syndrome, not long after I first got my bike. The disc got hot as Hades, but no problem with the MC...

im in the hinterland hills here, and ive never got my front brake that hot,i actually tried to see how good it was down "henri roberts dve"it should be called "brake fade dve"if a few cars are in front you can really smell the brakes,i was purposley taxing the front brake,i got a little fade and thats about it,this is one steep long twisty decent,i guess if you have older fluid thats when you wish it was new.
