Anybody have a CAD file for a CB750 Frame?
« on: November 06, 2010, 02:55:45 PM »
I have a '78K and was going to do some custom fairings and stuff. I figured I'd better ask before I spent several hours CADing it up on my own.

Thanks for your help guys.

I have seen one on HedNuts website. Hednut.com

You might send him a message to see if it was to scale.

Frame drawings are in some Clymer manuals, and I assume in the factory manuals..

Mick

That may just work. Do you have a version that is any higher resolution? It just makes it easier for me.

Edit: actually the top view is a little light on dimensions. I may be able to piece it together but I'm not sure.

Well I thought I'd give you guys an update. Brendan over at HedNut is going to send me his file, which is only accurate around the tank area. With some dimensioned drawings I can make the whole frame fairly accurate. I can make it available to all you guys when I'm done, for anybody who needs a modeled frame for making fairings etc.

Until then, if anybody else has a dimensioned drawing of the frame to supplement the one retro rocket provided I could get it done pretty quick.

Thanks everybody

I just noticed that the frame drawing above seems to be from an earlier CB750 (based on that brace in the back that also holds the rear fender). Is there any other differences in the frame besides that or are they interchangeable in terms of motor mounts etc?

Yes, Sheik, they're all the same from K0-K6. However, you might want to verify the information on the drawing with an actual frame. I really hope you can create this complete CAD file; obviously no one else has to date. RR

K0 to K6 don't you have a K8?

Yeah, it's a K8. If anybody has a dimensioned drawing of a k8 I'd like to see it. If I can't find a drawing for that year I'll just have to go ahead and use the one already posted in this thread. I looked through my manual and couldn't find anything.

Just curious, is there a similar frame drawing available for a late or early (if there is any difference) model CB550K?  I'd be very interested is having that information available to check my frames.

Do you have a PDF of a manual downloaded? I found the exact same drawing in a PDF I had for the F1 frame. You might have luck in yours.

NICE!

You're further along than me. Is that to real life dimensions or is it just visually accurate for a render?

You will find actual Honda frames to be all over the place regarding alignment and dimensions.  I have custom hardtailed 14 of them, and although they all fit my frame jig, they were all slightly different.  This is good work though for future design and prototyping.  I am merely suggesting that you drill a 5/16" hole for your 1/4" fairing bolts.  It will make assembly much easier.  :)

Finally motivated myself to get some work done on the frame. Here's a snapshot. This is based entirely off the drawing I had available to me (the one posted earlier in this thread). I still need to double check several dimensions, but I don't have a front view so certain things are still kind of fuzzy. I don't have my frame in front of me which doesn't help.

I'll keep updating this thread. I plan on trying to finish it this weekend.

I believe that frame drawing came from the CB750 shop manual. At least it looks like the one in my shop manual. Maybe shop manuals for diff. years and models would have similar schematics. Anyway, I'd like to see that 3D model turn into a complete bike. Maybe exploded view where you can pick the color?  ;D You seem to have talent for a young fella. What is your goal Sheik?

Thanks for the kind words! I'm an industrial design student so this kind of thing is what I do. I'm actually in the process of converting my bike to run on lithium batteries, so I'm using this frame drawing to help me figure out my electric motor mount and my battery mounts. I also plan on enclosing all the electric parts by using laser cut acrylic panels, so this will just make it easier to figure that stuff on later down the road. Sadly I don't plan on modeling the rest of the bike, but I can give the frame to anybody who may want to take it that far. I know that in my initial searching there are a few sites that have whole engines modeled, but you have to purchase the file.

Would you be willing to share that 3D file with us? Surfaces or solids and what format is it in?
