And report on its behaviour..... ;D ;)
Mick

We are about 12 hours away from being covered in the white stuff. :(  Any setup testing I do will be indoors.  What I should have added to my previous post -
... I will of course fit one to my 550 immediately, and post pictures.  The 2nd filter will be sent to my tester south of the equator, to get real world 750 setup test results.

OK, as the filters are on their way to me, and the 1st 750 stacks are do about the same time, my tester it seems is getting antsy. ;) :)

I have asked Terry to do the 750 testing, to which he has agreed.;D ;D  The plan is to ship him a complete unit, about the middle of next month (2 weeks).  The best part is that Terry will be trying it on all his bikes.   This will supply setup info on different pipe, and displacement configurations.

So Mick, we should all start getting 'real world' fed back just in time for Xmas. :)

I doubt the "tester" is using stock carbs on the various "test vehicles". How are you planning to manage fitting 750 stacks on these various machines carb sets?

Good work fellas....test away.

Thanks bwaller, sure you don't want to try 750 carbs on that race motor of yours?  You could always bore them. ;) :)

Terry has had the stock carbs on all his bikes, including the 836.  I would expect in that situation to see good throttle responce, and very strong bottom / mid range.  However, the carb throat size will restrict top end vs a Mikuni or CR.  How much, is but one of the questions he will be answering. ;) :)  My expectation is that, in day to day street riding, any performance trade off will be well worth it.  So while he won't get every pony out of it, there should be a torque curve that even a V8 would envy.  Good thing it has that lockup clutch. ;) ;D

This is all so well thought out. Tintop whenever I read your posts it is like getting a lesson in mechanical engineering, chemistry, racing, motorcycles...llamas? This has to be the most well thought out/ researched approach for an airfilter.....my bike thanks you. The guy in China making those $5 pod filters is cursing your name. ;D

Keep up the great work, we are all benefiting!

I'd like to 'air out' the 550 at least once without baffles.  So I thought I would check out what spring track days are being offered.  Sounds like Syscrush would be up for it.  Probably prefer Shannonville, as it is alot more forgiving of 'rusty rider' mistakes than Mosport.

1st up will be photos of it on my 550, then the test results from Terry.  You don't have to wait though, I'm always open to receiving money. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm up for it at Shannonville if I can work out a way to get my bike prepped and to the track.  I've done a track day at CMP where I rode there the day before, prepped the bike at the track, rode all day, then switched it back to road-duty and rode home.  I'd be down with something similar in this case, although I'd also be open to riding over to someone's nice heated garage, doing the prep there, and riding along in his bike hauling rig. :)
Life is precious: wear your f'n helmet!
There's nothing more expensive than a free bike...
FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Terry has had the stock carbs on all his bikes, including the 836.

Just one small correction Brian, as Brent knows that I'm running 32mm CV's on my gold 836cc K2, but I took the CR's off my K1 fitted with the hot 836 and am back to running stockers. (I hated the CR's, I've got some modded 33mm Mikuni smoothbores for my 1060cc RC engine and I've used them before on a Suzuki 1100 Drag bike and they were great)

I've got a K6 top end on my F2, so I'll be able to compare Brian's filter set up on both extremes, a stock as a rock CB750, (albeit with electronic ignition and 4 into 1 pipe) and on a worked 836 with 12:1 pistons, JMR stage 3 head, Megacycle 125/75 cam, etc etc. I'm going on a months leave in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking forward to putting in a lot of riding! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks for the update Terry.  With your 'herd thinnlng', I kind of lost track of what was still in the barn.  For those interested in the results, the F2, and 836 will cover both ends of the spectrum. ;) :)  Many thanks again for taking this on. - Brian

Many thanks again for taking this on. - Brian

I'm very happy to be of help Brian, although I'm happier with the stock Keihin carbs over the CR's in most respects, I wasn't happy with the K&N pods on my hot 836cc engine, and while the stock airbox appears to work better with a K&N filter installed, it's still far from perfect, so I'm really hoping that your setup will provide the best option, and it'll certainly look better than either pods or the old airbox! Cheers, Terry. ;D

No one will know until the testing is done..  One thing i will say is that if both places are the same distance above sea level then there will no difference in settings if both bikes have similar specs, there are two many variables to say, "this kit will use the same jets and needles world wide"

That's my take on it Mick.  What I am hoping to get from Terry's tests are a baseline / starting point.  This should get you very close, or maybe there if your engine has the same specs as the test bike(s).

Quick update.

The 1st two filters have arrived from the UK, and I will pick them up on Saturday.  First thing will be to drill holes for the stacks.  If nothing else gets in the way I should be able to post photos of it installed on my 550 by Sunday.  As soon as the modified 750 stacks arrive, I will ship Terry his test unit.  At this point that looks like it will be late next week.

Then the fun can begin. ;) ;D
