Topic: CB400f Varnish Blue paint formula

I just had my OEM CB400F tank scanned and paint mixed to match the original Honda Varnish Blue.

I could not find the formula easily on the web so here are the paint codes:

I will paint early next week and post my results. I dipped a test strip in the can, let it dry and it looks really good.

Here is a test patch of Varnish Blue I sprayed. I'll post a photo of the tank after clearcoat. Looks very, very close to the OEM color.

Tank is done and matches the OEM Varnish Blue.

You can order acrylic off the Internet. It comes from German takes about a month. Did one of my tanks in it looks mint. Be sure to prime the tank with white primer

I just carried this very formula down to a local guy on Saturday to have my tank sprayed and he recognized it as a European formula for DuPont automotive paints. Said he could use it though. You might call around to your local automotive paint suppliers and see what they say.

This is kicking my ass again, but my GoogleFu finally rose up to the challenge. And so I am going to post this for posterity, in the hopes it helps the next guy.

That swatch in the photo is aka a Toyota paint code # 8A1

Okay, but what's the paint code?  I did a lot of refinishing work in the autobody world and it's never "exactly" the same.  Maybe close enough that most people can't tell a difference, but I bet an experienced person who works in autobody could tell.

Thanks, Menno.  I got my tank and side panels painted using the 8A1 Toyota code.  It was  a very good match based on overspray areas on the original side panels.
